Über diese Erweiterung
Browser Markdown renders markdown files right where they are — no copy-pasting into an editor, no uploading to a viewer, no extra tabs. Click a .md, .mdx, .markdown, or .txt file, local or on the web, and it opens as a clean, readable document with GitHub-style light and dark themes.
Everything renders the way you'd expect:
Great for local files. Point it at a README on your disk, project notes, or docs in a repo checkout. Edit in your editor, and the rendered page refreshes on save — a live preview with zero configuration.
Built to stay out of your way. It only activates on actual raw markdown files — never on regular web pages, and never on github.com (GitHub already renders markdown). You can disable it on any site from the popup.
Private and safe by design. No accounts, no tracking, no data collection. Everything runs locally in your browser — nothing is sent anywhere. All rendered HTML is sanitized (DOMPurify) before it touches the page, and every library ships inside the extension: no remote code, ever.
Install it once, and markdown just looks right.

Everything renders the way you'd expect:
- ✅ Full GitHub-Flavored Markdown — tables, task lists, footnotes, strikethrough, autolinks
- 🎨 Syntax-highlighted code blocks
- 🧮 KaTeX math, from inline formulas to full equations
- 📊 Mermaid diagrams — flowcharts, sequence diagrams, and more
- 🗂 Table of contents sidebar that tracks your position as you scroll
- 🌗 GitHub light and dark themes that follow your system
- 🔄 Auto-reload for local files — save in your editor, see it update in the tab
- 👁 One-click toggle back to the raw source
