Salome by Richard Strauss von Alberich Potter

The 1961 studio recording of the Richard Strauss opera Salome, based on the Oscar Wilde play. Georg Solti conducts the Vienna Philharmonic with Birgit Nilsson in the title role, Gerhard Stolze as Herod and Eberhard Wächter as Jochanaan (John the Baptist). For me Nilsson is the greatest Salome of all time, although I still cannot picture her as a teenage seductress performing the Dance of the Seven Veils. I just count my blessings at being able to listen to her, using my imagination for the rest!
