About this extension
Export your Claude conversations to Markdown, JSON, or HTML with one click.

Claude Chat Exporter adds an export panel to every conversation on claude.ai, so you can save your chats in multiple formats with full control over what gets included.
  • Complete capture: reads the whole conversation at once — no scrolling, and nothing lost because a message had not been rendered yet
  • Multi-format export: Markdown (.md), JSON (.json), and HTML (.html)
  • Clean output: only the conversation. No buttons, tooltips, "Thought for 12s" labels or other page furniture mixed into your text — and no emoji in the headings, so anchors and slugs stay clean in Obsidian, Hugo and Jekyll
  • Artifact extraction: generated files and code artifacts, with their full contents and the right language for syntax highlighting
  • Thinking block support: Claude's reasoning exported as collapsible sections
  • Inline citations: web search citations placed exactly where they belong in the sentence, with a numbered reference list per message
  • Web search sources: every source with its complete URL
  • Sources are optional: turn them off and the markers, the source list and the reference list all go — the prose is left clean, for exports you intend to print or share
  • File attachments: uploaded images embedded by name and link, document filenames listed
  • Message timestamps: real per-message times, not "7 hours ago"
  • YAML frontmatter (optional): title, date and source URL at the top of Markdown exports, so files drop straight into Obsidian, Hugo or Jekyll
  • Faithful formatting: code blocks, lists, tables and headings come through exactly as Claude wrote them
  • Readable filenames: Quarterly_planning_2026-09-02.md, dated so they sort by name, and your title is kept as written — accents, Greek, Cyrillic, Arabic and CJK all survive
  • One-click export with visual progress feedback
  • Follows your theme: the panel matches Claude's light or dark mode
  • Bilingual UI: English and Greek
  • Privacy-first: everything happens in your browser
  1. Open a chat conversation on claude.ai
  2. Click the purple export button on the page
  3. Choose your format (Markdown, JSON, or HTML)
  4. Toggle what to include: artifacts, thinking blocks, attachments, timestamps, sources
  5. Click Export — your file downloads right away
  • Documenting your research and findings
  • Creating knowledge bases from AI conversations
  • Sharing conversations with colleagues
  • Archiving important discussions with full context
  • Preserving code artifacts and technical solutions
  • Using as context in Claude Projects

Works on Claude chat conversations at claude.ai. Claude Code sessions are not
supported, and neither is the Claude Code CLI or the desktop app — this is a
Firefox extension, and it reads the conversation from the page you have open.

Everything happens in your browser. The extension reads your conversation from claude.ai using the session you are already signed in with — the same request the Claude web app itself makes — and builds the file locally on your machine.

No third-party servers are involved. Nothing is collected, transmitted to anyone else, or stored.

Version 3.2 — Sources and citations can now be turned off, the emoji are gone from the exported file, and exports are named Quarterly_planning_2026-09-02.md instead of ending in a 13-digit number. Titles in any script — French, German, Greek, Cyrillic, Japanese — are kept as written rather than stripped. The export button collapses to a disc until you reach for it, and says what it needs on a page with no conversation. On top of 3.1's optional YAML frontmatter and 3.0's direct conversation reading: complete message capture, inline citations, full source URLs, and clean output.
