Privacy policy for Restore Shorts Dislike Button (2026 removal)
The following is an exhaustive list of uses of the user's Personally Identifiable Information (PII) by this extension, including only submissions to third parties and not to any of the developer's own servers:
- The extension, as you'd expect, submits data to YouTube when the dislike button is pressed. The user has already consented to submission of interactions to YouTube according to Google's privacy policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy)
- The extension also submits video IDs to the Return YouTube Dislike API in order to fetch dislike counts as they consume content, only when the user clicks on or scrolls to another Short. Return YouTube Dislike states, as of writing:
"The extension only collects data that is strictly necessary for it to function properly, such as the IP address or ID of the video you're watching. None of your data will ever be sold to 3rd parties. If you would like to know more about how we handle security and privacy check out our security FAQ (https://github.com/Anarios/return-youtube-dislike/blob/main/Docs/SECURITY-FAQ.md)."
This applies as well to the API used by this extension, as they use the same API. Any data 'collected' according to this statement is collected by the Return YouTube Dislike API and not by the developer of this extension.
You can also see their privacy FAQ at https://returnyoutubedislike.com/faq#privacy
- Data about what videos the user dislikes is not currently being sent to the Return YouTube Dislike API. However, this is subject to change in revisions of the privacy policy and updates to the extension source code.
