About this extension
UAIE — Universal Adaptive Interface Engine: free, learner-controlled accessibility on every website. Text-to-speech with word-by-word highlighting, Grade 2 UEB Braille download, UAIE Sign™ (72 gestures), Reading Companion, Dyslexia Font, and Colour-Blindness filters — in 31 interface languages. Designed and built by Fiza Pathan, a teacher of dyslexic and slow-learning students in Mumbai, India, and a multiple-award-winning author, UAIE gives differently-abled learners, dyslexic readers, blind and partially-sighted users, Deaf learners, autistic learners, and multilingual classrooms a single comprehensive panel that adapts any webpage to their needs.

Core features — all free, all local, no API key required:

• Text-to-Speech — high-quality system voices with rate control, pause/resume, and word-by-word highlighting.
• Grade 2 UEB Braille Download — converts any page to Unified English Braille (contracted) and downloads a BRF file ready for a refreshable Braille display or an embosser.
• UAIE Sign™ — a 72-gesture educational sign system invented by Fiza Pathan, with fingerspelling for every letter, designed for inclusive classrooms in South Asia. BSL, ASL, and ISL word lookup also included.
• Reading Companion — large-print mode that reads each word aloud and highlights it as spoken, with optional syllable separation for dyslexic learners. Adjustable speed.
• Dyslexia Reading Font — the entire page rendered in the OpenDyslexic typeface (bundled, works fully offline).
• Colour-Blindness Simulation — Protanopia, Deuteranopia, and Tritanopia filters to let teachers and designers check how their content appears to colour-blind learners.
• High Contrast and Dark Mode — instant toggles for low-vision users and light-sensitive learners.
• 31 Interface Languages — English, Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Kannada, Sanskrit, Arabic, Urdu, Spanish, French, Portuguese, German, Italian, Dutch, Polish, Russian, Greek, Romanian, Ukrainian, Turkish, Chinese, Japanese, Swahili, Hausa, Yoruba, Igbo, Amharic, Zulu, and Afrikaans.
• Keyboard Shortcut Alt+A to open and close the panel — because an accessibility tool must itself be keyboard accessible.
• WCAG 2.2 AA self-certified. Built with zero tracking, no analytics, no data collection. Your reading habits are your own.

Optional features — only if you supply your own Anthropic API key (page text is sent to the AI only when you use these, and the interface says so plainly):

• Plain Language Mode L3–L6 — rewrite any page at progressive levels of cognitive simplification. (Levels 1 and 2 are free and need no key.)
• Translate — render any page into any of 17 languages, including Hindi, Tamil, Arabic, Urdu, and Swahili.
• Multiple Intelligences Transform — re-render any text in nine cognitive styles based on Howard Gardner's framework.

UAIE works on every website. It injects a small gold accessibility button in the corner of every page; clicking it opens the full panel. Settings persist across browser sessions.
