About this extension
Amnesia automatically deletes browser history entries that match your rules — the instant they appear. Add a domain or a keyword once, and every matching visit disappears from history immediately and silently.
WHY AMNESIA
• Instant: entries are removed the moment they are recorded, not on a schedule
• Rule-based: domains (with all subdomains) and keywords (matched anywhere in the URL)
• Retroactive: adding a rule also cleans your existing history
• Live preview: see how many entries a rule would clean — with sample URLs and false-positive warnings — before you add it
• Quick add: one click on "This site", a keyboard shortcut (Alt+Shift+A / ⌥⇧A on Mac), or right-click on the extension icon
• Undo: removed a rule by mistake? One click brings it back
PRIVATE BY DESIGN
• 100% local: zero network requests, nothing ever leaves your device
• No accounts, no analytics, no telemetry
• The deletion log is OFF by default; if you enable it, it stays local and capped
• Optional PIN lock (PBKDF2-hashed, with brute-force rate limiting) protects the interface and settings from prying eyes — while cleaning keeps working regardless
• Rules and log can be masked on screen for shoulder-surfing moments
HONEST ABOUT LIMITS
Amnesia cleans browser history. It does not (yet) clean cookies, cache, download records, "recently closed" tabs, bookmarks, or address-bar suggestions coming from tabs that are still open. The full list is shown right in the settings.
PERMISSIONS
• "Read and change browsing history" — the core function: finding and deleting matching entries
• Storage — keeping your rules and settings on your device
• Active tab & context menu — adding the current site as a rule when you ask
Open the popup, add your first rule, and forget about cleaning history manually.
