Chat Exporter for ChatGPT is an unofficial Firefox extension for creating local HTML backups of ChatGPT conversations.


To provide its export function, the extension operates only on https://chatgpt.com/ and uses the user's existing signed-in ChatGPT session.

The extension may access the following data strictly for its primary export function:

• Authentication information: the current ChatGPT authentication/session information required to make ChatGPT requests. It is used only in memory and is not stored by the extension.
• Website content: conversation titles, conversation identifiers, visible User and Assistant message content, and detected source links requested for export.
• Website activity: user-initiated actions required for the primary function, such as loading the conversation list and starting or saving an export.

The extension does not send conversation content, authentication information, browsing activity, or exported files to the developer or to any third-party analytics, advertising, tracking, storage, or processing service.

Requests needed to read the user's own ChatGPT data are made directly between the user's browser and chatgpt.com.

Authentication information is sent only to chatgpt.com as required for those user-requested ChatGPT operations.


Conversation data is processed locally in the browser for the current export operation.

HTML and ZIP exports are generated locally.

Firefox's Downloads API is used to show the Save As dialog and save the file to the location chosen by the user.

The extension waits for Firefox to report the download as complete before reporting a successful export.

The extension does not keep a database of exported chats, file names, conversation IDs, message content, source links, or export history.

The only persistent setting saved by the extension is the selected interface language: Polish or English.


The extension does not contain analytics, telemetry, advertising, tracking systems, external developer servers, or remotely downloaded executable code.


Exported conversations are generated as static HTML without JavaScript.

Conversation content is escaped before it is inserted into the generated HTML.

Links are preserved only when they use supported safe URL schemes.


The current version exports conversation text and detected source links.

Images and file attachments are not downloaded yet.

Archived and Temporary conversation scopes are not included yet.


The developer does not receive or retain user data because the extension does not transmit user data to the developer.

Temporary in-memory data used during an export is discarded when the operation finishes, the page is closed, or the extension context is destroyed.
