About this extension
Imperum Veil is a PII-redaction layer for web-hosted LLMs. It watches what you type into ChatGPT, Claude.ai, Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, and M365 Copilot, and intercepts personally
identifiable information before it leaves your browser.
What it catches:
Identity — usernames, email addresses, phone numbers, SSNs, credit cards.
Network — IPv4, IPv6, MAC addresses, hostnames, defanged IPs, LDAP DNs.
Infrastructure — Windows SIDs, file paths, JWTs, API keys, private keys, database passwords.
Each detection is replaced with a stable placeholder such as REDACTED_IP_1. The LLM never sees the original value, but because placeholders are consistent across a conversation, the model
still reasons about the same entity.
How it works:
1. Detect — Veil scans your prompt as you type. A small chip appears at the bottom of the page showing what it found.
2. Redact — One click replaces the PII with placeholders. You can also send anyway if the policy allows.
3. Restore — When the model response streams back, Veil rewrites the known placeholders back to the original values in your browser only.
4. Audit — Every redaction is logged to your Imperum tenant so security teams can see policy in action.
Three modes per host:
Warn — show the chip, let the user choose to redact or send.
Transparent — rewrite the outgoing request body automatically (supported on ChatGPT and Copilot Web).
Block — refuse to send until PII is redacted.
Requires an Imperum account. This extension is a client for the Imperum platform. You need a running Imperum instance and an account on it (SSO or personal access token). On first run, enter
your Imperum URL in the extension Options page and sign in. If you don't have Imperum yet, see https://imperum.io
Privacy:
The PAT / SSO token is stored locally in browser.storage.local. It never leaves your machine except in calls to the Imperum URL you configure.
Redaction events sent to your Imperum tenant include the host (for example chatgpt.com), the action you took, and per-category counts — never the PII itself.Nothing is sent to Imperum HQ or any third party.
