Find the Hacker News discussion for the article you are reading, then choose a thread to read beside it. Split for Hacker News is free, open source (MIT), and unofficial.

• Select a result in the popup to open its Hacker News comments.
• Exact URL matching — no fuzzy guesses, duplicates are listed as alternatives.
• Or open the real Hacker News discussion in the side panel. While at least one panel is open, a temporary rule removes framing and CSP headers from all Hacker News sub-frame responses in that browser profile, including frames outside the panel. This also removes HN script restrictions inside those frames; top-level pages and other hosts are unaffected. The rule is removed after the last panel closes.
• Optional: while the side panel is already open, follow active tabs automatically; off by default, or use Check this tab once. It never opens or rearranges tabs, and may keep up to three recent discussions alive for faster return and best-effort scroll position.
• Open in Split in the link right-click menu: the link opens in the current tab and its Hacker News discussion opens in the side panel.
• Optional toolbar badge with the comment count, off by default.
• No telemetry, extension accounts, or developer-operated backend. Lookups send eligible sanitized public page or selected-link URLs and an optional canonical URL to Algolia's public Hacker News Search API, never article text. Opened discussions connect to Hacker News with ordinary request metadata and any cookies allowed by browser policy. Settings stay local; lookup results and tab associations use session storage.
