Every language version of the article you are on, ranked by prose depth and reference count.Depth and sourcing are scored separately, so the most complete version and the best sourced one can differ.Dark theme, matched to your browser. About this extension
The same Wikipedia article is not the same everywhere. The German version of a topic can run
four times longer than the English one, and the Japanese version can be longer still while
citing a third as many sources. Most readers never find out, because nothing on the page
tells them.

Wikiweigher adds a small card to Wikipedia articles that exist in more than one language. It
reads that article's other language versions, measures the strongest candidates exactly, and
tells you which is worth reading.

WHAT IT MEASURES
  • Prose words, with references and navigation excluded, so a page padded with citations does
not outrank a page with more to say.
  • The number of references, as an independent signal of how well sourced the article is.
  • Featured and Good article badges, read from Wikidata, worth up to 5% of the score.
  • Section and image counts, as a smaller structural signal.

Word counts are adjusted for how compactly each language writes, measured against a parallel
corpus rather than guessed, so a naturally verbose language does not win by default.

WHAT YOU CAN CHANGE
  • Balanced, Most complete or Best sourced, or a fine slider between depth and sources.
  • How many languages get measured exactly: 6, 12 or 24.
  • Theme, accent color, and the card's own language.
  • The languages you read, so a winner you do not read gets a translate link.

HONEST BY DESIGN

If you are already reading the best version, the card says so instead of inventing a reason
to move you. When a different language has better sourcing than the overall winner, it says
that too. Every figure on the card is a plain count of the page it points to, prose words and
references, not a hidden score.

PRIVATE BY DESIGN

No server, no account, no analytics. It calls Wikipedia and Wikidata's public API and nothing
else. Buttons you press can open a new tab: Google Translate for a language you do not read,
and a bug report you have read in full first. Your settings never leave your machine.
