Volume Booster Tab version history - 5 versions
Be careful with old versions! These versions are displayed for testing and reference purposes. You should always use the latest version of an add-on.
Latest version
Version 0.5.0
Released Sep 30, 2026 - 228.95 KBWorks with firefox 91.0 and later, android 120.0 and laterNo permission changes. The add-on still requests only "storage" and "webNavigation" alongside its host access.
"Remember this site" saved every site the user visited, because each page load wrote the tab's settings back to storage.local. Only a change the user makes is saved now, and a remembered tab no longer carries one site's settings to the next. On update, saved sites equal to the defaults are removed.
A fresh install opens a welcome page in the GitHub repository once (tabs.create, no extra permission). runtime.setUninstallURL opens a goodbye page with a link to the issue tracker. Both URLs are fixed and carry no parameters, so nothing about the user or their usage is sent.Source code released under GNU Affero General Public License v3.0 only
Older versions
Version 0.4.0
Released Sep 30, 2026 - 228.58 KBWorks with firefox 91.0 and later, android 120.0 and laterStreaming fix
Prime Video could show "Video unavailable" while this add-on was installed, even with no boost set. That is fixed: the add-on now leaves a video alone until you actually set a boost, and waits until playback has started before touching it.
Boost protected video
Prime Video and other services that use DRM can now be made louder too. Start playback first, then set the level.
Also fixed
- The popup no longer shows a sideways scrollbar when Advanced settings are open.
No new permissions. The add-on still sends nothing anywhere.Source code released under GNU Affero General Public License v3.0 only
Version 0.3.0
Released Sep 30, 2026 - 228.3 KBWorks with firefox 91.0 and later, android 120.0 and laterEqualizer presets
Pick a named sound instead of tuning six sliders: Speech, Cinema and Night, plus Rock, Pop, Jazz, Classical, Electronic, Hip-hop, Acoustic, Vocal boost and Bass reducer. Presets change the character of the sound, not its loudness, so switching one never makes a boosted tab suddenly louder.
Your own presets
Save the current curve under a name from the popup. In settings you can rename, reorder or delete them, and each one shows its curve so similar names are easy to tell apart.
Bass, mid and treble
Simple tone controls that work on the same six bands as the detailed view, so the two always agree. The bands now have names (Sub-bass to Brilliance), and a tooltip explains what each one does.
Detached panel
The popup can open as its own window, so the volume stays in view while you use the page.
Tabs playing audio
The popup lists the other tabs whose sound the add-on is adjusting, loudest first. Click one to jump to it, even if it is in another window.
Export and import settings
Save your defaults, remembered sites and presets to a file, then load them in another browser or on another computer. Importing asks before it replaces anything.
Also new
- Two reset buttons: "Use my defaults" and "Reset to neutral".
- Links in the popup to rate the add-on and to report a problem.
- All new text is translated into the 55 supported languages.
No new permissions. The add-on still sends nothing anywhere.Source code released under GNU Affero General Public License v3.0 only
Version 0.2.1
Released Sep 15, 2026 - 147.79 KBWorks with firefox 91.0 and later, android 120.0 and laterRemoves two permissions the add-on no longer needs. "tabs" and "activeTab" are gone: the host permissions already covered everything they were used for, including reading a tab's URL to apply a per-site volume. Nothing about what the add-on does has changed, and it asks for less than before.
Fixes audio on sites that run their player in an iframe, which is most of them. Previously the boost silently did nothing there.
Fixes a video going permanently mute after setting a volume and switching to another stream. Players that reuse one <video> element across streams left it routed nowhere until the page was reloaded.
Fixes the extension on Chromium builds running Manifest V2, where several browser APIs are callback-only and the popup failed to open.
An embedded widget could previously relabel the tab as its own origin - an embedded payment frame could make a stream page read as m.stripe.network, and "Remember this site" would have saved the setting under that domain. Only the top-level document defines the tab's identity now.
The popup now explains why a page cannot be boosted instead of leaving the status line blank, and the bypass control names the current state (Active or Bypassed) rather than the action.
PERMISSIONS
The add-on now requests only "storage" and "webNavigation" alongside its host access. webNavigation enumerates a tab's frames so the volume reaches a player inside an iframe; it is used for nothing else, and no page content is read and no browsing history is collected, stored or transmitted. The add-on still makes
no network requests of any kind.Source code released under GNU Affero General Public License v3.0 only
Version 0.2.0

New: a language picker with all 55 languages, an editor for saved sites that
applies changes to open tabs immediately, volume presets that follow the
configured maximum, and a status line explaining why a page cannot be boosted.
The bypass control now names the current state rather than the action.
NEW PERMISSION: webNavigation
Required to enumerate a tab's frames so the volume reaches a player inside an
iframe. It is used for nothing else: no page content is read, and no browsing
history is collected, stored or transmitted. The add-on still makes no network
requests of any kind.Source code released under GNU Affero General Public License v3.0 only
