Air Alerts in Bookmarks by kvachikk
Shows Ukrainian air raid alerts on the bookmarks toolbar — one bookmark per region, refreshed in the background.
Extension Metadata
About this extension
Air raid alerts are announced by region, and checking them means opening a map
and finding your own oblast on it. This extension puts the answer on your
bookmarks toolbar instead, where you already look:
WHAT IT DOES
It creates one bookmark per region you choose and renames those bookmarks on a
timer. Your own bookmarks are never read, moved or modified — the extension
remembers the ids of the ones it made and touches nothing else.
If you cannot see them, the bookmarks toolbar is hidden — Firefox shows it only
on new tabs by default. Right-click the toolbar area, then Bookmarks Toolbar,
then Always Show.
Clicking a bookmark opens the full map at alerts.in.ua. Clicking the toolbar
icon refreshes immediately; its badge counts how many of your regions are
currently under alert.
WHAT YOU CAN CHANGE
Open Preferences to choose:
A preview shows exactly what your bookmarks will say.
ONE REQUEST, HOWEVER MANY BOOKMARKS
The feed answers for the whole country in one response, so a refresh fetches it
once and renders every bookmark from that single answer. Ten regions cost the
source exactly what one does.
PRIVACY
Nothing is collected and nothing is transmitted anywhere except the alert feed,
and that request is sent with credentials omitted — no cookie, no token,
nothing identifying you. There is no server, no account, no analytics and no
telemetry. Your settings live on your device in storage.local, deliberately not
in storage.sync, so they never travel through a Mozilla account.
The extension holds a host permission for the feed and nothing else, so it is
not technically able to contact another host. There is no content script, so it
runs on no web page at all.
WHERE THE DATA COMES FROM
A free public JSON feed run by Ubilling (ubilling.net.ua), with no key and no
account. It reports 24 oblasts plus Kyiv and Sevastopol.
That feed is unofficial. If it changes or fails, the bookmarks fall back to
"Київ — ?" rather than showing a stale "no alert" that somebody might act on.
Alerts are per region, not per city. A finer breakdown needs an API key from an
official provider, which a later version may add.
THIS IS NOT A WARNING SYSTEM
It is a convenience. Use the official channels — sirens, the Air Alert app,
your local administration — to decide whether to take cover.

There is no bundler and no minifier. The code in the add-on is the code in the
repository, readable as it ships. A privacy check runs in CI on every commit
and fails the build if any network call, dynamic-code call, synced storage,
sensor API, analytics name, or URL outside the feed appears in the source — or
if the one request stops omitting credentials.

WHAT YOU CAN CHANGE
Open Preferences to choose:
- Up to ten regions, each its own bookmark.
- The name on each one. Leave it empty for the region's own name, or type
anything you like — "Луцьк" rather than "Волинська область". - The wording for all three states. "{name} — ТРИВОГА", "{name} — тихо" and
"{name} — ?" by default; write your own, down to "{name}: 🔴" if that reads
faster to you. - Ukrainian or English, switched inside the extension rather than taken from
the browser, so it suits an English speaker in a Ukrainian Firefox and the
other way round. Wording you edited is kept per language. - How often it refreshes, from one to sixty minutes.
