CustomTube - Restore the Old YouTube Layout by lightbeam

by Haista, 2 years agoNice addon! Noticed a couple of bug-like things. With ESR Firefox yt subscription page thumbs will now lose 3-dot menu button. And the addon settings aren't settable. Are those things fixable? Thanks!
Response to dev...
Apologies for not mentioning that the addon is problematic with ESR 52.9.0, in Windows XP environment. I did find the setting though. Youtube still works in WinXP, but ever since they introduced the polymer bloat, it's usability has gradually gone downhill. That goes for modern OS's also, so thanks again for trying to make things better!
P.S. The addon works perfectly in Win10. And as much as I would love to, I'm not expecting the addon to become compatible with WinXP.

I downloaded Firefox 102 ESR to test, and I was able to edit the settings just fine. Are you sure you found the popup with all the settings? A few users reported not being able to find it at first. The CustomTube icon should be either on your browser toolbar, or in the Extensions list (by clicking on the extensions button beside Firefox's menu button). Click the icon to open the popup.
If you actually did find the popup and were still unable to change settings, please consider making an issue on the CustomTube Github: https://github.com/lightbeam24/customtube/issues
As for the subscription page thumbnails, YouTube has been A/B testing a new icon system, where the icons take much longer to load. Try refreshing the page while on the subscriptions page, and wait 5-10 seconds. The 3 dots should have appeared by then.

- Rated 2 out of 5by Firefox user 19521345, 10 days agoits good but the new yt ui completely broke this
- Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 10388193, 11 days ago(Edited) Broken at the moment of writing this review BUT here's to hoping it gets an update... It does make Youtube more ugly which means I am enticed to spend less time on the platform which I like.
Edit: Use the 2019 Layout, it works - Rated 1 out of 5by Ichi, 13 days agoHELL NAW! USED IT FOR FIVE MINUTES AND IMMEDIATELY, I DELETED IT.
IT DOESN'T SUPPORT THE NEW REDESIGN AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH - Rated 1 out of 5by Max, 15 days agoThis extension is very broken: the video UI, logo (why is it blue?), description, video icons, video titles (they're very big) and more. It seems that this extension hasn't been updated in a very long time and that might be the cause.

- Rated 5 out of 5by SpaceXplorer, 4 months agoReally sad that it's deprecated (look at the github) but it still works better than the replacement userscript that the dev has moved on to.
- Rated 5 out of 5by niuxen, 6 months agogreat, I cannot stand the large film minuatures youtube makes, this extension helped me to make them smaller with more icons on the home page
- Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 18623341, 6 months agoSince YouTube changed to 3 massive thumbnails per row, this extension has been the answer. It lets you set the thumbnail size and number of thumbnails per row, or just revert to an older YouTube layout. Love it.
- Rated 1 out of 5by disasterofsorts, 6 months agoThis works... But only for the default layout (the 2017 one). Changing any settings, does absolutely nothing and no amount of refreshing will change the layout to the one you've selected.

- Rated 3 out of 5by Firefox user 18835116, 8 months agoGood but needs a little bit of graphic design tuning. Also I still see videos made after the year I set YouTube to which kills the aesthetic a lot.

- Rated 4 out of 5by zesty sause, 9 months agoso this is pretty good with a lot of the designs back to the good old classic youtube but a couple problems that occurred were
in the late 2009 edition there is a lot of overlay with the buttons such as the notifications button, create button, subscriptions and history buttons overlay onto the youtube layout
the search bar is broken and needs fixing
ok another issue i encountered was that in the same old design the dislike button is cut in half
that is all the current issues i have but if i encounter any more ill make sure to include them in this review :) - Rated 1 out of 5by oldsitesarebetter, 10 months agoits shit it dosent change the search bar its buggy and much more
