by LT Smash, 6 years agoWorked just fine for a couple months, then Firefox quarantined it (when it was still named Dark Mode and wasn't recommended yet), this message appears below the disabled and locked out "Dark Mode" :
Dark Theme (Malware) has been blocked for your protection.
Why was it blocked?
This add-on violates Mozilla's ad-don policies by using obfuscated code.
What does this mean?
The problematic add-on or plugin will be automatically disabled and no longer usable.
When Mozilla becomes aware of add-ons, plugins, or other third-party software that seriously compromises Firefox security, stability, or performance and meets certain criteria, the software may be blocked from general use. For more information, please read this support article.

Now I'm using the slightly inferior Dark Night Mode add-on, because I can't stand all that LED light at night, especially that harmful blue wave we experience that seriously messes with the circadian rhythm/sleep cycle (like those new LED streetlights, im glad my city still mostly just has the orange sodium lights and hope the newfound harmful health effects slow down the deployment of that even worse light pollution).
Mr. Shutau, can I trust your new "Dark Reader" or will it attempt to inject malicious code sometime in the future? I really liked your "Dark Mode", but using Debian Linux, I was surprised to see the word Malware in my add-ons when I went to the Add-Ons menu when I noticed the extension stopped working and the icon disappeared from my toolbar.
If an explanation of what happened here can be obtained, I'd love to see it...

- Rated 5 out of 5by AYSemkiv, 11 days agoI like this addon, but I really want an option to use it on restricted websites.
- Rated 4 out of 5by Shape, 14 days agoIts a good addon, but it automatically turns my custom theme black, which is why i did not rate it 5 stars.
If the option to leave the theme alone appears, ill fix this rating to a 5, but otherwise, it gets a 4.
Let me have my stary pixelated theme god damn it >:T - Rated 4 out of 5by Google Chrome, 18 days agolife-saver for my retinas, HOWEVER
costs a LOT of ram. if your browser lags hard i gotta go to task manager, firefox and kill the sub-program trying to eat 12gb of my 32 ram. usually works for long enough until i gotta repeat 10-15 mins later - Rated 5 out of 5by dwouu, 18 days agoWorks well on most websites, with or without tweaking. Prevents flashbangs even on "dark-themed" sites.
- Rated 2 out of 5by mlatpren, 19 days agoI *really* want to like this extension. It's got a lot of promise. But it's a huge resource hog, at least on my system. I have to fiddle with it on any site with even slightly fancy styling, so I can't really justify the performance dip. I tried switching to a CSS injector with some basic rules and it was more reliable and efficient than this. I hope (and have faith) that'll one day change, but for now I can't use this.

- Rated 3 out of 5by Alonzo, a month agoDark Reader has recently been causing me problems on various websites. The pages get stuck while loading and links do not lead to the linked content, but to the content above or below it. The following websites only work for me if I disable Dark Reader. I use Firefox and Opera as my browsers.

- Rated 5 out of 5by Rév, a month agoA must have, it used to be paid before after a certain days (or maybe it still is on chrome) but now its the best browser extension to have, and works like a charm almost every time
- Rated 1 out of 5by circcc, a month agoI installed this extension on Firefox for Android, YouTube will not play frequently and I had to restart Firefox frequently. I didn't know this, so I suffered this inconvenience for 1 year and 5 months.
