Privacy policy for Frost - Beautiful New Tab
Frost — Beautiful New Tab is designed with a "privacy-by-default" architecture. We do not collect, store, sell, or transmit any of your personal data, browsing history, or settings to any external servers owned by the developer. All data stays on your local machine.
- Permissions and Data Usage
To provide its core productivity features, the extension requires the following permissions:
Bookmarks: Used strictly to allow you to search and navigate your saved links via the Command Bar (Ctrl+K) and the Bookmarks Widget. This data is read locally and never uploaded.
Geolocation: Used solely to provide real-time weather updates via the Weather Widget. Your coordinates are used only to fetch data from weather providers and are not stored.
Unlimited Storage: Required to allow you to save high-resolution Custom Background Images locally on your device for a personalized experience.
Storage: Used to sync your preferences (to-do lists, settings, and widget layouts) across your Chrome devices.
3. Third-Party API Integrations
Frost interacts directly with the following third-party services from your browser:
Unsplash: To fetch daily wallpapers.
Open-Meteo: To fetch weather data.
GitHub API: If you enable the GitHub widget, your Personal Access Token is used solely to authenticate direct requests to GitHub. This token is stored locally and is never shared with the developer.
4. Security
Your data is secured using Chrome's internal storage APIs. Sensitive information, such as your GitHub token or personal to-do lists, remains encrypted within your browser profile and is never accessible to the developer or any unauthorized third party.
