- Overview
Gemini Quick Definition is a browser extension that provides short definitions for words or phrases you highlight on any webpage. It uses Google’s Gemini API to generate those definitions.
We respect your privacy and want to be transparent about what information is (and isn’t) collected. - Data We Do Not Collect
We do not collect, store, or transmit any personally identifying information.
We do not track which websites you visit or how you use the extension.
We do not use analytics, telemetry, or cookies. - What Happens When You Use the Extension
When you highlight text and press Ctrl + Shift + F, the extension:
Reads the highlighted text and the page’s title and headers (to provide context).
Sends this information to Google’s Gemini API to generate a definition.
The request is sent directly from your browser to Google’s servers.
No copy of the text or response is stored or transmitted anywhere else. - Stored Information
The only data saved locally is your Gemini API key, stored securely in the browser’s internal storage (chrome.storage.sync / browser.storage.sync).
This never leaves your device and is not accessible to anyone else. - Third-Party Services
Definitions are generated using Google’s Gemini API.
Please refer to Google’s Privacy Policy for details on how Google handles API requests. - Your Consent
By using this extension, you consent to the transmission of the highlighted text and page context to Google’s Gemini API only when you actively request a definition. - Changes to This Policy
If the extension’s data practices ever change, this policy will be updated and the new version will be published along with the extension update.
