About this extension
This addon can display visited sites history in form of a 3D node graph,
which can be used to open previously visited pages.

The graph can be freely manipulated in 3D plane.
Some node graph parameters like link length, text label size or node size can be configured in the Control panel.

Each node represent a single domain, and clicking a node opens a panel of the last visited links for said domain, which you can use to launch the webpages.
You can quickly delete individual links you don't need,
and can also delete an entire node (domain).
There is a search field which allows you to quickly locate nodes via highlighting them. Recorded history can be freely edited in the addon's Options page.

Usage instructions

3D History Map
  • To open the main 3D node graph view, click the addon icon on the toolbar.
  • Left click + drag to rotate the view
  • Right click + drag to pan the view
  • Mouse wheel scroll to zoom in steps
  • Hold MMB and drag up or down to zoom gradually
  • You can drag individual nodes around, each node represents a specific domain
  • Clicking a node selects it, opening a panel of last visited links for the corresponding domain
  • In the links panel you can either open said links, or delete them
  • In the links panel you can also delete the node (domain)
  • In the bottom right corner there is a collapsible Control panel with various display options
  • On the bottom of the page there is a filter panel to search for specific domains, which will highlight matching nodes

Options menu
  • To quickly get to the addon's Options menu, right click the addon icon, and select "Options"
  • "Show 3D Map" - open the main 3D node graph view from Options page.
  • "Refresh view" - refreshes the Options page with the current pata
  • "Export History" - exports recorded history as a .json format file. Its fully readable/editable, as long as you don't break its formatting that is.
  • "Import History" - imports the previously exported history file. It merges existing history with the imported one. If you want to keep only the imported history - clear the existing history first, then import. To be safe, backup current first history before clearing it.
  • "Clear History" - clears all current history. Recommended to export a backup file first before clearing, just in case.

Requirements
History must be enabled. Addon uses Firefox history to pull the list of last visited links for a selected node (domain). With History disabled, that list would simply be empty.

Suggestions
Set browser.tabs.loadDivertedInBackground to true in about:config, this way when you open a link from the links panel, it will open in the background, instead of Firefox switching to it immediately, that way you can open multiple links without being interrupted.

Data
All data remains locally on your machine.
The only external requests the addon makes are to retrieve the site favicons to display on the nodes, primarily using DuckDuckGo service, with Google as a fallback in case DDG fails.

Permissions
  • Access browsing history - needed to fetch the list of last visited links for a selected domain, or delete specific entries from said list.
  • Access browser tabs - needed to access tab titles and URLs, to record the history of going from one site to another, which is then used to create nodes on the graph.
  • Access browser activity during navigation - allows to check how the user got to the current page, used to record the history of going from one site to another, which is then used to create nodes on the graph.
  • Access your data for DuckDuckGo / Google / gstatic domains - needed to call the services of said domains in order to fetch the site favicons to display on the nodes. DuckDuckGo is used by default, in case it fails - Google.
