LST — Local Subtitle Translate adds locally generated translations to Netflix and Prime Video subtitles.

LST connects to an Ollama server running on your computer by default and lets you choose or download a model. DeepSeek and Gemini are also available as optional providers when you supply your own API key. Subtitle translation can happen in real time, or an episode can be precomputed and cached before playback.

LST does not require a cloud translation service. By default, subtitle text is sent only to Ollama running at http://localhost:11434. If you select DeepSeek or Gemini, subtitle text is sent directly to that provider using your API key and may be subject to its terms, privacy policy, quota, or charges. LST has no developer-operated translation, analytics, or telemetry service.

Developer comments

I built LST after moving to Japan and running into a surprisingly common problem: a lot of anime available here only includes Japanese subtitles. LST started as a way to make those shows easier to follow by translating subtitles locally with my own Ollama models instead of relying on a cloud translation service. A compatible Ollama installation and at least one installed model are required when using the local provider. Netflix gets full-track capture, so an episode can be precomputed and cached. Prime Video currently runs on the realtime path: LST reads the caption line the player draws and translates it as it appears, and does not yet offer precompute or a transcript sidebar there unless you import a subtitle file for the episode, which gives it a full track. A subtitle file you already have on your own computer can be imported the same way, and that path makes no network request at all. Importing is optional: LST asks for access to jimaku.cc and www.subtitlebot.com only when you press Search in the import card, and never contacts them otherwise. LST supports Netflix and Prime Video on the hosts listed in its manifest and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Netflix or Amazon.
