Media Bulk Downloads version history - 4 versions
  • Be careful with old versions! These versions are displayed for testing and reference purposes. You should always use the latest version of an add-on.

  • Latest version

    Version 1.4.0

    Released Sep 13, 2026 - 661.77 KB
Works with firefox 140.0 and later, android 142.0 and later
    Media Bulk Downloads 1.4.0

    New for Firefox
    • Stream capture (HLS & DASH) now works on Firefox. It used to be Chrome-only
because it assembled segments in an offscreen document; the engine now runs in
the extension's own page, so capturing .m3u8 / .mpd video and audio-only (M4A or
MP3) behaves the same as on Chrome. Turn it on under Settings → Media → Capture
video streams. Live and DRM-protected streams are refused by design.

    New features
    • The toolbar icon flags failed downloads — the badge turns red with the failed
count, so a failure isn't silent when the popup is closed (for example a
right-click or keyboard-shortcut download). It clears when you open the popup.
    • Collects originals declared in structured data (schema.org JSON-LD / microdata)
even when the page only shows a resized copy — no extra requests.
    • Collects media in <object>, <embed>, <input type="image"> and inline SVG <img>.
    • "Check sizes" — an opt-in button that asks each CDN the real size and type of
remote items, so the size column, size sort, and size filter work on them.
    • Expiring links are recognised: media from signed CDNs carries its expiry through
the grid, History, Favourites, and the queue, and an expired item fails fast with
a clear "Link expired" hint instead of retrying a guaranteed 403.

    Changed
    • New defaults: the on-page floating bubble is on, and downloads keep their
original filename (instead of the numbered image_N prefix). Both are still
changeable in Settings; existing preferences are untouched.
    • The "homepage" link on the add-ons page now points to the documentation site.

    Fixes
    • Keyboard-shortcut and right-click downloads go through the same queue as the
popup, so a download that fails is no longer recorded as a success.
    • "Clear done" clears only finished items (failed rows keep their Retry); the queue
progress bar reaches 100% when every item is done.
    • Instagram/Facebook reels that showed only a cover are no longer collected as
un-downloadable poster tiles; duplicate tiles from rotating CDN URLs are folded
    to one.
    • File extensions are consistent: .jpeg saves as .jpg, and HEIC/HEIF/JPEG XL/TIFF/
JPEG 2000/APNG keep their real extension instead of a wrong .jpg.
    • srcset alternates, <picture> sources, and <noscript> fallbacks are measured and
filtered correctly; an unrenderable thumbnail shows a placeholder and is never
    hidden or dropped.
    • Exported backups no longer carry live signing tokens; copied/exported links stay
    usable.

Note: "Retry w/ referer" (hotlink-403 recovery) is still not available on Firefox,
which does not support the header-rewrite rule it needs; failed downloads fall back
    to a plain retry there.

    Version 1.3.0

    Released Jul 22, 2026 - 469.18 KB
Works with firefox 140.0 and later, android 142.0 and later
    Media Bulk Downloads 1.3.0

New site support — full-resolution originals and real media now resolve on many
    more sites, including:
    • Video: TikTok, Twitch (clips & VODs), Kick, SoundCloud, Coub, Loom, PeerTube,
    Pornhub, XVideos, xHamster, VK, ok.ru
    • Images & art: Imgur, Pexels, Civitai, Patreon, Pixiv Fanbox, WikiArt, Itaku,
Inkbunny, Steam, Tenor, Image Chest, Erome, Kemono/Coomer, Chevereto & simple
image hosts, Fediverse (Pixelfed/Misskey/Lemmy), MangaDex chapters, Shopify
product pages, Der Spiegel, Onedio, and more.

    New features
    • Reset & clear — reset all settings to defaults, or clear all local data (history,
favourites, blocked sources) in one step (Settings → Data).
    • Filter by Fetched / Not-fetched.
    • Helpful empty state when active filters hide everything (no more blank grid).
    • Per-stream HLS/DASH rendition picker and a global capture-quality default;
    audio-only (M4A) capture.

    Improvements
    • Smart page defaults on by default; smarter filters, dedup, and deep scan.
    • Copied/exported links and backups no longer carry signing tokens.
    • Wider emoji / UI-glyph exclusion.

    Fixes
    • Firefox no longer offers capabilities it can't run (stream capture / referer
    retry are hidden on Firefox).
    • Pinterest covers & avatars upgrade to full size; Instagram carousel slides &
reels no longer vanish; Reddit v.redd.it links resolve; duplicate-filename
downloads fixed; YouTube / BBC thumbnail 404s fixed.

  • Version 1.1.0

    Released Jul 11, 2026 - 379.22 KB
Works with firefox 140.0 and later, android 142.0 and later
    New
    • Recover more originals on X/Twitter: video and photo posts whose grid tiles
never render an image (lazy-loaded / withheld) are now surfaced as pending
items and resolved to their full-resolution originals via X's public
    syndication endpoint — opt-in, no login, host-pinned to twimg.com.
    • Facebook original-image accuracy raised to 77–90% across Photos, Reels, and
Page timelines (from ~5%), via a passive, read-only media sniffer.
    • Persistent download queue: per-file status (queued / downloading / done /
failed), pause · resume · cancel · retry, and it resumes after the popup
closes or the browser restarts. New "Simultaneous downloads" setting (1–10).
    • "Retry with Referer" for hotlink-protected (HTTP 403) downloads — opt-in, one
URL at a time, restores access to media you can already view.
    • Format conversion (WebP/AVIF → PNG/JPEG) now preserves the source's EXIF and
    colour-profile metadata.
    • "Notify when downloads finish" now saves reliably.

    Firefox
    • Requires Firefox 140+ (Android 142+). HLS/DASH stream capture remains a
Chrome/Edge-only feature (it needs the offscreen API Firefox doesn't provide).

Everything runs locally in your browser. No accounts, no tracking, no data
    collection.
