NetMon IP & Speed is a Firefox extension that shows your public IP address and periodically measures your internet download speed.
What data the extension uses
To provide its core functionality, the extension accesses the following third-party services:
- IP information services:
- https://ipwho.is/
- https://api.ipify.org/
These services are used to determine your public IP address and approximate connection information such as country, city, provider, and ASN.
- Speed test services:
- https://speed.cloudflare.com/
- https://download.thinkbroadband.com/
These services are used to download a test file in order to measure your current download speed.
When your browser contacts these services, they can see your public IP address and standard request metadata. This is technically necessary for the extension to show IP information and measure speed.
What data is stored
The extension stores the following data locally in your browser:
- your last detected public IP information;
- speed test results and history;
- baseline speed values;
- extension settings, such as the check interval;
- interface preferences, such as whether detailed information is expanded.
This data is stored using browser local storage and is not sent to the extension developer.
What data the developer collects
The developer does not collect, store, or receive personal data from users through this extension.
The extension does not include analytics, advertising, tracking, or user accounts.
Notifications
The extension may show a local system notification when it detects a critical drop in download speed. Notifications are generated locally.
