Reviews for Simple Tab Groups
Simple Tab Groups by Drive4ik

by Alexandr Zarubkin, 8 years agoThis extension has finally allowed me to upgrade to Firefox Quantum. I had Tab Groups extension installed which was not supported on new Firefox at that time and didn't want to make a move without that or similar extension. Simple Tab Groups are just what I needed. Allows to group tabs, to switch groups, doesn't load all tabs in group but only active one (saves RAM).
To all unsatisfied reviewers:
* Tabs loss is not due to this extension, this is an acknowledged Firefox bug. The extension author has shown it happens even without his extension. It is registered in Firefox bug tracker. The best you can do for now is to check that the extension is tracking your tabs (colored triangle on extension icon), back up tab groups before closing Firefox, and hope that either extension author finds a workaround, or this bug is fixed in Firefox itself.
* Adding moz:extension scheme to url is the way to avoid tabs reloading when switching groups. If you disable Fast Group Switching, you'll disable url mangling, but you'll notice that all tabs are loaded at once. This, again, is a limitation of Web Extensions API in new Firefox, which doesn't allow to hide a tab, only to close it. And when you switch groups, you'll need to reopen them. I've heard that tab hiding has finally been added to Web Extensions API. Let's hope it's true, and wait for new version of Firefox which supports tab hiding.
Sad to see undeserved bad ratings.

Pinned tabs and Firefox's native tab groups tend to 'leak' (for lack of a better term) through the groups in this extension. - Rated 4 out of 5by Gabiru, 7 days agoUnfortunately no longer working with Floorp browser version [email protected]

- Rated 1 out of 5by Gluttony, a month agoI was loving this, until I lost all groups when coming back to work today, all was fine Friday... I'll try redoing them, and after looking in options I saw there are backup/restore options, I hope it works, else I'll have to fine something else.
Edit: finally I saw there are automatic backups and was able to restore last one, give 4 stars, not 5 that would have been if I did not lost all groups in the first time.
Edit again: I should have looked better, yes all my groups have been restored, counters of tabs seems good, but there are missing tabs, when I change group it just jumps to a tab keeping others (from other groups) open, and do other weird stuff... And now its even worse that before I restored... Too sad... - Rated 3 out of 5by Firefox user 10019882, a month agoBasic functions work: in management mode, drag & drop one tab list item to another group; switch to group. The biggest problem is memory usage after long time usage of Firefox v 143 on a Mac Tahoe (not sure of other OS). The memory usage jumped from around 1GB to 7GB after upgrading MacOS to Tahoe version. In the background, must be keeping other OLD tabs in groups already closed but still open (not sure contents of pages already loaded). When I disabled this extension, suddenly more than 20 tabs popped out when total opened tab in all groups were about 7. Plus, Firefox now has implemented tab grouping feature same as Chrome: to collapse tabs into 1 group tab.

- Rated 4 out of 5by monkeypee, 2 months agoi keep having issues with previous session not opening, and normally i can just click "restore previous session" and it returns all the tabs to the correct groups but i had a guy clean my pc today and he didn't restore session before closing and reopening again (which makes the option dissapear). which left me with "reopen all tabs" in recently closed, and not only did it not restore them all, they were not in groups after restoring. well, the extension only made the experience slightly worse but i needed somewhere to vent i guess lol. becareful out there if you cherish your tabs

- Rated 2 out of 5by MartinThomas, 3 months agoI originally gave this 5 stars, but as time went by it got more and more erratic. Maybe because I had many tabs open?
More and more often, large numbers of tabs would vanish; sometimes several groups would lose most of their tabs. I could usually get most of them back from the backups, but the tabs I had added within the last day would not come back.
