About this extension
PLEASE NOTE THAT WE ARE IN THE MIDDLE OF A REBRAND. CARBONFIREFLY.AI IS IN THE PROCESS OF BECOMING TOKENTRACE.AI. YOU WILL SEE BOTH BRANDS DURING THE REVIEW.

CarbonFirefly gives you an insight into the carbon cost of your AI conversations. Every query to ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini uses energy. CarbonFirefly shows you our best estimate -- based on academic research -- of how much carbon that produces, in real time.

How it works:
A small, unobtrusive badge appears on supported AI platforms showing the estimated carbon footprint of each query. Token counts, and carbon estimates are calculated instantly using research-derived energy consumption data. You can select your AI provider's data-center region in settings to get location-accurate estimates based on local grid carbon intensity.

Supported platforms:
- Google Gemini (gemini.google.com)
- ChatGPT (chatgpt.com)
- Claude (claude.ai)

What you see
Per-query carbon estimate (gCO2e) with confidence bands
Session totals and daily/weekly summaries
Region-aware calculations using grid carbon intensity data for 12 global regions
Optional dashboard sync for long-term tracking

Open methodology
Carbon calculations use published energy consumption data from Luccioni et al., IEA grid intensity figures, and ElectricityMaps. Estimates are adjusted for your selected data centre region, reflecting local electricity grid carbon intensity. Every estimate includes uncertainty bands so you know the confidence level.

Why it matters
AI usage is growing exponentially, but its environmental cost is invisible. CarbonFirefly makes that cost visible — helping you make informed choices about which models to use and when.

Your prompts and messages are NEVER read, stored, or transmitted.
All data stays on your device or can be synced to our cloud platform for analysis.
Optional anonymous telemetry is disabled by default.
Export or delete your data at any time.
