This Privacy Policy describes how Subtiltee (“we”, “us”, or “our”) collects, uses, stores, and shares information when you use our suite of browser extensions, including:

We are committed to the principle of Data Minimization. Our extensions are architected to process data locally on your device using On-Device AI technologies.
2. Data Collection

To provide the translation and optimization services, our extensions must technically access certain data displayed on your browser tab. Here is exactly what we access:
A. User-Generated Content (Page Content)

What is accessed: The text displayed on the specific web pages where the extension is active (e.g., chat messages on WhatsApp Web, posts on Reddit, prompts on ChatGPT).
Method of collection: The extension reads the Document Object Model (DOM) of the webpage to identify text requiring translation.
Status: This data is accessed ephemerally (temporarily) strictly for the purpose of processing the translation. We do not collect, harvest, or transmit this content to our own servers.


B. Technical & Usage Data

What is collected: Anonymous, aggregated data provided by the browser platform (e.g., Chrome Web Store).
Details: This includes generic metrics like the number of active installs, browser language, and extension version.
Status: This data is non-personally identifiable and is used solely to monitor the health and performance of the extensions.


1. Data Usage

We use the information accessed solely for the functionality of the extension:

To Provide the Service: We access the text on your screen to generate a translation or optimization using local AI models or your configured API.
To Save Preferences: We use your local browser storage to remember your settings (e.g., target language, “Always Translate” toggles).


We do NOT use your data for:

Advertising or marketing purposes.
Building user profiles.
Selling to data brokers.


1. Data Storage and Retention

Because we prioritize your privacy, our data retention policy is strict:

Content Data (Chats/Posts): We have zero retention of your messages. The text is processed in the volatile memory (RAM) of your device for the microseconds required to translate it and is immediately discarded by the extension. It is never written to our servers or databases.
User Settings: Your configuration preferences and optional API keys are stored locally in your browser’s designated storage area (chrome.storage.local). This data remains on your device until you uninstall the extension or clear your browser data.


1. Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer your personally identifiable information or content to outside parties.
A. Local Processing (Default)

When using the default “Local AI” mode, no data leaves your device. All processing is self-contained.
B. Third-Party Service Providers (User Opt-In Only)

If, and only if, you voluntarily choose to input a personal API key for a third-party service (e.g., DeepL API, Google Gemini API, OpenAI API) to enhance translation quality:

The text you select for translation will be sent directly from your browser to that third-party provider.
We (the extension developer) do not act as a middleman and do not see this traffic.
This data sharing is governed strictly by the privacy policy of the service you have chosen to connect.


1. Security Measures

We implement security best practices to protect your data:

No Remote Servers: Since we do not operate a backend server for data processing, there is no central database of user data that can be breached.
Local Encryption: Where applicable, sensitive settings (like API keys) are stored within the browser’s sandboxed environment.
Content Security Policy (CSP): The extensions comply with strict Content Security Policies to prevent unauthorized external connections.
