by Zaffira, 5 years agoI copy and paste the news about problem ads. You can find down on any video, with extension active, click to bell to read: "In September, Twitch started to fight ad blockers, including my extension. The extension uses special tricks to block ads. In turn, Twitch blocks every trick it seen. After that, I need a few days to find a new trick. Plus, you need to wait until the new version of the extension will be published in the store. Google and Microsoft require up to 7 days, Mozilla 1 day. All this time, you see ads in the expansion player.
The number of tricks is limited and at the moment Twitch has blocked almost everything. Therefore, in the next version of the extension, I will add a more reliable, but less effective way to hide ads. During the ads, playback may pause for a few seconds and you will see the message “Skipping ads”.
Unfortunately, Twitch rarely shows ads in my region, so I cannot test the ad hiding feature myself. I need volunteers to test the beta versions of the extension. They should: be able to think logically, often see ads in the extension, install extensions not from the store (I will give instructions), describe the test results in detail. If you want to help me with this tedious but important job, then in the player menu click “Send Feedback” and let me know. Thank you!"

- Rated 5 out of 5by teriodore, 10 days agoIssue: “Encrypted broadcast” error on specific stream
Browser: Firefox 148 on Linux
Description:
The Alternate Player shows the message:
“This broadcast is encrypted. The extension does not support encrypted broadcasts.”
The stream plays normally in the official Twitch player.
This only occurs with one specific streamer; other streams work normally in the extension.
During testing, network capture showed the HLS playlist loading successfully from Twitch’s playlist CDN, with normal refresh intervals and segment delivery. This suggests the manifest is being served correctly and the issue may be related to an encrypted or DRM-enabled stream variant that the extension does not currently support.
If needed, I can provide HAR logs or additional network details. - Rated 5 out of 5by ChillaxJustDoIt, a month agoCan you add a message bridge/API so I can inject my Twitch "SleepSafe Sound Audio Normalizer" into your player page, e.g. moz-extension://7a621ae0-f468-4129-8951-56d84d276e52/player.html?channel=streamer
Would be very nice, if you can make it possible. Thanks - Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 18567848, a month ago

- Rated 5 out of 5by COCOLICHE, a month agoI tried a lot of things to solve the stuttering on firefox, this is the only thing that worked perfectly.
- Rated 5 out of 5by Sakujo, 2 months agoWorks really well. Should have much higher rating. If you want to watch with the Twitch player, just click on the title on top. Easily solves annoying Twitch ads. Will play in lower resolution for the ad duration, but overall works more often than ublock origin (for twitch)

- Rated 3 out of 5by Dani, 3 months agoI've been enjoying the Alternate player for years & it works well than the default site, sadly it's getting destroyed by 1440p encryption. Hopefully it gets updated to deal with 1440p streams.
- Rated 3 out of 5by AustralianAlex, 4 months agoWas working quite well until recently, it will now infinitlely buffer while ads are playing instead of hiding them like usual. I would suggest finding an alternative, as the last update was some time ago.
- Rated 4 out of 5by iSWB, 4 months agoStarting about a week ago, now when ads play, it freezes instead of lowering the quality until the ad is over.
- Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 19584902, 4 months agoThis broadcast is encrypted. The Alternate Player for Twitch.tv extension does not support encrypted broadcasts. Click the “Back” button to return to the previous page.

- Rated 5 out of 5by Adam S. Messinger, 4 months agoIt works well at blocking ads but the typing area in the chat window will no longer work as of last week. It was perfect before that.
Update: As of 11-30-25 its working for me with no problems. - Rated 5 out of 5by Gorzag, 5 months ago

- Rated 1 out of 5by enjoyer, 5 months agoOverall, a shady addon.
1. Addon has BSD license without source code linked.
2. It sends telemetry, unique persistent device fingerprint, device, screen, date and time, time zone, CPU, GPU, languages information when you try to send a report.
3. Contrary to its policy (coolcmd.github.io/privacy.html#tw5-en), you cannot refuse to include the data, only refuse to send the report altogether.
4. The server URL is not disclosed: r90354g8.beget.tech/tw5/report3.php
5. Chat in the extension page doesn't save theme across browser sessions.
EDIT: you can still see the extension's code in the browser, it's not minified. IT'S IN RUSSIAN (yes, the whole code, not just the comments).
