About this extension
Vernac is a clean, fast translator for Firefox.

Translate text your way: paste it directly, select text on a page, or scan a full page and translate readable content section by section.

Vernac uses Google Translate by default, so it works without an account or API key. If you want higher-quality translations, you can add your own DeepL Free or Pro API key in settings.

Key Features:
  • Paste mode for quick text translation
  • Selection mode with a floating Translate button
  • Full-page scan to translate readable page content
  • In-place translation with one-click revert
  • Chunk mapping so translated sections link back to their source text
  • 70+ target languages
  • Dark, light, and system themes
  • Popup or in-page sidebar view
  • Google Translate by default with no signup required
  • Optional DeepL support using your own API key
  • Right-click context menu for selected text
  • Adjustable translated text size
  • Local preference storage

Privacy:

Vernac does not use analytics, tracking, telemetry, or any Vernac-operated server.

Translation requests are sent directly from your browser to the selected translation provider: Google Translate by default, or DeepL if you add your own key. Your preferences stay in browser storage. Your DeepL key is stored only for the current browser session unless you choose to remember it on this device.
