About this extension
YDownloadNow finds the video a page is actually playing and saves it as a normal file — on Firefox for desktop and on Firefox for Android.

Most videos on the web are not a single file: they are streams cut into hundreds of small segments. Your browser can play them, but it has no button to save them. YDownloadNow reads the playlist, downloads every segment and rebuilds the video into an MP4 — without re-encoding, so there is no quality loss and no long wait.

WHAT IT DOES
  • Detects streaming video and ordinary media files on the page you are on, while you watch.
  • Quality picker with the estimated size of each option, so you know what you are getting before you start.
  • Save only the audio, as MP3.
  • Trim before downloading: pick a start and an end, and save only that part.
  • Link scanner: sweep the page for downloadable files when nothing shows up.
  • Handles encrypted and fragmented streams that simpler tools choke on.
  • Finds images, PDFs, archives and other files too — switch each type on or off so the list shows only what you want.
  • Thumbnails, so you can tell two videos apart.
  • Downloads tab: everything you saved stays listed, ready to open again.
  • Downloads keep going in the background: closing the popup does not stop them.
  • Opens as a popup or in the Firefox sidebar.

ON ANDROID

It works in Firefox for Android like any other add-on. On the page with the video, open YDownloadNow from the Firefox menu, pick the quality, and tap to save the file when it is ready.

VERY LARGE FILES

Firefox builds the file in memory before saving it, and past roughly 1 GB it may refuse. YDownloadNow does not just fail: it warns you first and offers a lower quality that fits, and if a download fails anyway, it offers that smaller version again with one click.

WHAT IT DOES NOT DO

It does not touch DRM-protected content. Widevine, PlayReady and SAMPLE-AES streams are refused by design, so it will not download from Netflix, Disney+, HBO or similar services — and it never will. Please only download content you have the right to, and respect each site's terms of service.

FREE AND PREMIUM

Free, every day (the counters reset daily):
- 1 video, up to 1080p
- 3 downloads from YouTube and social networks
- Other files by size: 15 up to 20 MB, 5 up to 100 MB, 1 larger
- A download that fails does not count.

Premium removes every daily limit and adds 1440p, 4K and 8K quality, faster downloads, 320 kbps MP3 with speed and pitch control, downloading everything on a page in one click, an overnight queue that starts your downloads by itself, and a download history synced across your devices.

EUR 2.99 per month or EUR 19.99 per year, on up to 3 browsers, with a 7-day free trial. Cancel any time from the website.

PRIVACY

Detection, downloading and assembly happen in your browser, and the file is saved straight to your device. It does not pass through our server unless you choose a server-assisted download.

This is what the extension sends, and when:

Always, because the free plan cannot work without it:
- A random install ID, to count the daily limit and validate Premium, together with the browser and system it runs on. There is no account and we do not store your IP address.

Only if you allow it in Firefox's data-collection prompt:
- Your country.
- When a download fails: at which step it broke and an error code — never the raw error message.
- The domain of the page where a download finished (for example example.com), stored without the install ID. It can also be turned off in Settings.

Only when you use the feature:
- YouTube and social networks: the page address is sent to our conversion service, because that is how those downloads work.
- Server-assisted download and Premium history sync, both off by default.

WHY IT NEEDS ITS PERMISSIONS
  • Access to the sites you visit: a stream can only be found by watching the requests made by the page you are on. The page's content is never sent anywhere.
  • Downloads: to save the finished file.
  • Opening the downloaded file is optional — it is only requested when you press "Open file", and you can say no.

WHAT TO KNOW BEFORE INSTALLING

If nothing shows up
Many sites do not load the video until you press play. Play it for a few seconds and open YDownloadNow again. If it still does not appear, use the link scanner to search the page for files.

On Android
When the download finishes, tap to save the file: without that tap it is not saved.

Real limits on Firefox
- A file is assembled in memory before it is saved. Past roughly 1 GB Firefox may refuse it: the extension warns you before starting and offers a lower quality that fits. If it still fails, it offers that smaller version again with one click.
- Some sites sign their links against your browser or your IP. Those can only be downloaded locally, never through our server — and the extension tells you so instead of failing silently.
- DRM-protected video cannot be downloaded and never will be. We refuse Widevine, PlayReady and SAMPLE-AES by design, so Netflix, Disney+ and HBO are out.

Why it asks for access to all sites
A stream can only be found by watching the requests the page you are on makes; there is no other way. Page content is never sent anywhere. What data is sent, and when, is explained in the Privacy section of the description.

If something does not work
Email support@ydownloadnow.com with the address of the page. Almost everything we get is a specific site that stopped working, and that is fixed in days. Settings > Support prepares the email with the technical details already filled in.

Updates
Firefox checks for new versions roughly every 24 hours, not on restart. If you want the latest right now, on desktop: Add-ons > gear icon > Check for Updates.

Free and Premium
It works with no account and no sign-up. The free plan has daily quotas: 1 video (up to 1080p), 3 from YouTube and social networks, and other files depending on size. A download that fails does not use up your quota. Premium removes them: EUR 2.99 a month or EUR 19.99 a year, on up to 3 browsers, with a 7-day free trial, cancellable from the website whenever you want.
