Locktin — Privacy Policy (browser extension)
Full policy: https://getlocktin.com/privacy · Last updated 15 July 2026
THE SHORT VERSION
- The URLs you visit, your browsing history, and your per-site usage stay on
your device. We never receive them.
- The extension makes no network requests at all. It has no servers to call.
- There is no analytics, telemetry, advertising, or tracking.
- We do not sell or share your data.
WHAT THE EXTENSION DOES
The extension blocks pages. To do that it reads the address of the tab you are
looking at and compares it against the block rules you wrote. That comparison
happens locally, inside the extension, against a copy of your rules already on
the device — no request is made to decide whether a page is blocked. The block
page is rendered entirely from files inside the extension, including its font,
so it works with the internet switched off.
WHY EACH PERMISSION IS NEEDED
- Access to the sites you visit: read the current address to compare it against
your block rules, and stop a blocked page from loading.
- Tabs and navigation: notice when you move to a new page, so a blocked one can
be caught as it starts loading.
- Storage: keep a local copy of your block rules so blocking works instantly
and without a network.
- Native messaging: talk to the Locktin app on your own computer. This is a
local channel, not a network one.
On YouTube, Reddit, and Instagram the extension can also hide specific parts of
the page (feeds, recommendations) when you ask it to. It changes how those pages
look; it does not read or send their contents.
DATA COLLECTION: BROWSING ACTIVITY
The extension passes the address of the focused tab, and the fact that a block
happened, to the Locktin app on the same device. The app records the site (for
example reddit.com) — not the full address of the page — to a file on your
device. It is never uploaded. Addresses internal to your browser are excluded
before anything is passed along.
PRIVATE / INCOGNITO WINDOWS
The extension runs there only if you explicitly allow it in your browser's
settings. If you do, it works exactly as elsewhere: the tab's address is read
and passed to the Locktin app on your device. Nothing is uploaded.
WHAT SYNCS TO OUR SERVERS
If you sign in, your block rules — the websites, apps, and services you chose to
block, plus your block lists — sync between your devices so they agree. These are
the sites you decided to keep away from, not the sites you visited. They are
stored in plain text and readable by our servers.
