TextTrellis AI handles data only to prepare and hand a user-requested
prompt to chatgpt.com. The extension developer does not receive or collect
this data.
Opening the toolbar popup only identifies the active tab; it reads the page when
the user submits an action. Context-menu actions read the page when the user
invokes them. The extension may then read:
- text selected on the active page, or readable text from that page;
- the active page's title and the URL origin plus pathname (query strings and
fragments are excluded) when using selected or extracted page text; - text pasted or typed into the extension, including a custom instruction; and
- message content when the user applies the Write a reply action to it.
The page title and reduced URL are included as source information only for
selected or extracted page text. Independently typed or pasted text does not
include the active tab's title or URL. The extension extracts DOM text from the
selected page root; this is not limited to visibly rendered text, so CSS-hidden
text may be included. Users should review sensitive content before invoking an
action.
The extension also stores user-selected settings, such as the target language,
maximum input length, automatic submission preference, and background-tab
preference.
The extension combines the requested action, source text, page title, and reduced
URL into a prompt and inserts it into the visible message composer at
https://chatgpt.com. If automatic submission is enabled, the extension alsopresses the Send button. Otherwise, the user can review or edit the prompt
before sending it. A notice beside the popup action button states when selected
or page text will be sent to ChatGPT.
This transfer can include website content, browsing activity represented by the
page title or URL, and personal communications when the source text contains a
message. No service other than
chatgpt.com receives this data from theextension. The extension does not access ChatGPT cookies or credentials and
does not make authenticated backend or API requests.
ChatGPT's handling of content is governed by the active account's plan,
workspace policy, data controls, privacy policy, and applicable OpenAI terms.
Consumer account content may be used to improve model performance depending on
the account's data controls. See OpenAI's data-use explanation.
Prepared prompts are stored in Firefox's local extension storage so a newly
opened ChatGPT tab can retrieve them and so failed tasks can be retried. A stored
task can contain the complete prepared prompt, the requested action, submission
preference, status, timestamps, an internal task identifier, the ChatGPT tab
identifier, and any error message.
The extension retains up to 20 tasks. When a new task is created, tasks beyond
the 20 most recent are deleted. Every task has a 24-hour expiry from creation;
this bounds retention for abandoned pending or running prompts. After the
prompt is prepared for manual review or the extension clicks Send, the prompt
body is deleted while minimal task status metadata may remain until that
expiry. A Firefox alarm is set for the nearest expiry so deletion does not
depend on another user action while Firefox is running. If Firefox was not
running at the deadline, overdue tasks are deleted on the next startup. The
options page has a Clear stored prompts control that removes stored task
records without removing settings.
Tasks created in private windows are never written to extension storage. They
are kept only in background memory for the handoff and are lost if the background
process stops before completion.
Firefox removes the extension's local storage when the extension is
uninstalled. Users can also remove it by clearing the extension's stored data.
The extension contains no analytics, advertising, tracking, or remote code. It
does not read browser history, cookies, account credentials, or ChatGPT
responses. A Copy prompt button is offered after certain errors; copying
occurs only when the user presses it and places the prompt on the system
clipboard.
