À propos de cette extension
Read New York Times articles without the meter.
Unmetered for NYT blocks the four requests that run the paywall and the article
counter on nytimes.com. Install it, open an article, read.

✨ What you get
  • No paywall on nytimes.com articles
  • No daily article limit
  • No account, sign-up or payment
  • No telemetry, analytics or remote servers
  • One toolbar switch to turn it on and off
  • Steps aside when you have a paid NYT session
  • Interface in 52 languages

🆓 Free, with no catch
You will not find a trial timer or an upgrade prompt. Nothing to buy, nothing to
unlock, no premium tier planned. The extension is free software and the source
is public, so you can check that yourself.

📖 How it works
1. Add Unmetered for NYT to Firefox.
2. Open an article on nytimes.com.
3. Read it.

Nothing to configure. The toolbar badge reads ON while the extension is
working, OFF once you switch it off, and NYT when it has found a New York
Times session and stepped aside.

Underneath, it blocks four requests that carry the metering and gating logic:

*://www.nytimes.com/svc/onsite-messaging/query*
*://samizdat-graphql.nytimes.com/graphql/v2*
*://www.nytimes.com/statsig/rgstr*
*://meter-svc.nytimes.com/meter.js*

The extension injects nothing into the page, and it does not copy, rehost or
redistribute NYT content.

🔒 Privacy
The extension stores one value on your computer: whether you have switched it
on. That is all of its storage.

It makes no network requests of its own. It contacts no server, sends no device
identifier, and loads no remote fonts or scripts. It cannot read your browsing
history, and it carries no analytics.

Its host permission covers nytimes.com and nothing else.

🤝 If you subscribe, it gets out of the way
Sign in to a paid New York Times account and the extension finds the session
cookie and stops blocking. It will not interfere with a subscription you pay
for.

🧾 Why this fork exists
This forks an add-on published on AMO under the Mozilla Public License 2.0. That
build removed the New York Times paywall and put up one of its own: three
minutes of unrestricted use on install, a cap of ten articles a day after that,
then a payment to lift the cap. On every install it also sent a generated device
ID, your platform and your full user agent to a remote server.
Section 3.2 of the MPL requires that source code be made available to anyone
who receives the software.
The author never published it. This version drops the metering and the payment,
removes the remote call, and publishes the source the licence always required.
That criticism concerns the published build, not any person.

📰 Please support journalism
Unmetered for NYT suits the occasional New York Times article you run into. If
you read the Times often and value its work, subscribe. Reporters and editors
cost money to employ, and subscriptions pay for them.
