kaimdt Converter – Enhanced is a companion extension for https://converter.kaimdt.dev. It bridges the gap between browser-based file conversion and native system performance.

What it does:
This extension connects the kaimdt Converter web app with your system's native FFmpeg installation. This enables hardware-accelerated video and audio encoding (NVIDIA NVENC, Intel QuickSync, AMD AMF, Apple VideoToolbox) — something a browser alone cannot do.

Why install it?
• Up to 10× faster video conversions using your GPU instead of browser-based WASM processing
• Converts directly on your machine — no files are uploaded to any server
• Optional: works without the native host too (the web app falls back to in-browser WASM conversion)
• Zero telemetry, zero tracking — fully offline after installation

How it works:
1. Install the extension
2. Optionally install the native FFmpeg host (one-time setup via the included installer)
3. Open converter.kaimdt.dev — the extension is detected automatically
4. Select "HW Bridge" as conversion engine for GPU-accelerated encoding

Supported conversions via native FFmpeg:
• Video: MP4, WebM, AVI, MOV, MKV, GIF, and more
• Audio: MP3, WAV, FLAC, OGG, M4A, AAC, and more
• Hardware codecs: H.264/H.265 (NVENC, QSV, AMF, VideoToolbox)

Privacy:
All processing happens locally on your device. No data leaves your machine. The extension does not collect, transmit, or store any personal data. There is no analytics, no telemetry, and no remote code execution.
