MindShield - AI Critical Thinking & Prompting troch Frog1230

MindShield is an open-source browser extension that helps you think before asking AI. It encourages more intentional use of AI while helping you maintain independent problem-solving and critical thinking.

Instead of trying to stop you from using AI, MindShield looks for simple AI prompts that you may be able to reason through yourself. When it detects one, it adds a brief moment of friction that encourages you to think before automatically asking AI.


MindShield evaluates your AI prompt locally before it is submitted. If the prompt appears to be a simple reasoning or knowledge task that you could potentially handle yourself, MindShield encourages you to pause and consider solving it first.

More complex prompts can pass through normally.


AI assistants are incredibly useful, but their convenience can make it easy to automatically rely on AI for small problems we could solve ourselves. MindShield is an experiment in adding intentional friction to that habit.

The goal isn't to use less AI.

The goal is to use AI when it helps — rather than automatically using it for everything.
