Page to Markdown — save any webpage as clean, structured Markdown with one click.

What it does for you

• Archive articles, docs, and tutorials in a format that stays readable forever. No broken layouts, no missing stylesheets — just clean Markdown.
• Feed content to LLMs without burning your context window on noisy HTML. The plain text mode strips links and images so only the content travels.
• Clip YouTube videos with the transcript included inline.
• Organize in any knowledge base — Obsidian, Logseq, Notion, plain folders. Every file includes YAML frontmatter with title, URL, author, publish date, tags, word count, and reading time.

How it works

1. Click the toolbar icon (hold Shift to flip between modes).
2. The extension extracts the main content using Mozilla's Readability, strips noise like ads, sidebars, and nav, then converts what's left to Markdown.
3. The file downloads to your machine with a safe filename built from the page title and domain.

Two download modes

• Full Markdown — links and images preserved. Good for archiving and sharing.
• Plain text — links and images removed. Optimized for LLM context windows and minimal noise.

Set your default in the options page. Hold Shift while clicking to use the opposite mode for one-off cases.

Privacy

All processing happens locally. No page content or metadata is ever sent to any server. The only permissions needed are activeTab (to read the current page when you click), downloads (to save the file), and storage (to remember your mode preference).

Known limits

Readability works best on article-style pages — blogs, documentation, news. Highly dynamic apps, dashboards, and some code-heavy pages may not extract perfectly. Enable debug logging in the options page if you run into issues with a specific site.
