Dev is very vocally frustrated about their OSS extension flagging spuriously in VirusTotal.
TO BE CLEAR: Their code is clean, if/when audited.
**The MAJOR problem is with their installers that are SUS AF.
**The solution: d/l their code and build it locally on your won machine, bypassing their sus installer apps.
**If you can't DIY, don't even think of installing on a machine you use for secure purposes like Banking.

I download videos to play them back later using VLC and playing at double speed. This video download tool did not download videos with sufficient clarity to allow the double speed. When I speeded the playback up, the soundtrack was broken up. It would play for a few seconds, then stop for a few seconds, all the way through the video. The soundtrack had an intermittent clicking or popping sound at normal speed like it was barely keeping up. This extension could be a good tool if the soundtrack problem were corrected, but as it stands, it is not yet ready for prime time. FYI, I was downloading from a Kajabi storage site when I had this problem. The sample YouTube download you suggested in your installation process worked fine. Your extensive made me download an app from another vendor, MIG, to effect the download process. I don’t know if the problem came from your extension or that app, but they want $28.50 per year to use their software, and given this problem in downloading, I chose not to use or pay for the MIG app. Please let me know when you’ve corrected this, and I’ll try again.

I'm deeply disappointed with the developers decision to charge $30.50 for a premium wrapper for ffmpeg. So I am leaving this review to help others understand what you are actually buying for $30.50 (or the subscription fee).

To be fair to the Developer: Paul and his team built a very polished Link Sniffer and a nice UI. They also updated the 'Companion App' to handle HLS streams smoothly. For a non-technical user, this convenience has some value.

The 'Red Pill' Reality: However, the 'engine' doing the heavy lifting (downloading & converting) is still just FFmpeg, which is free, open-source software built by volunteers. You are essentially paying $30 for a dashboard that drives a free car.

Why $4.99 is the fair price: You are paying for the convenience of not using a command line. That is worth a cup of coffee ($5), not the price of a full AAA game ($30).

How to do it yourself for free (The steps they don't want you to know): If you have 5 minutes, you can replicate this 'Premium' functionality for $0:

Option A (Web-based & Clean): Use cobalt[dot]tools. Unlike other sites, it has NO ads and NO trackers. (Pro Tip: Smart users run uBlock Origin anyway, which makes the free web safer than many paid apps).

Option B (Power User):

Install 'The Stream Detector' (Firefox addon) to sniff the links just like this extension does.

Click it -> select 'Copy yt-dlp command'.

Paste that into your terminal with yt-dlp (free open source).

Verdict: Great UI, but the 'magic' is free elsewhere. Save your money unless you are allergic to keyboards.

Since a Firefox update to 116.0.3 (64-Bit), Downloadhelper doesn't wworks more. Very sad. Now I use the free Mediahuman without problems.

This extension used to work great for YouTube downloading. Now it hasn't worked in about a year. Supposedly it was fixed for a moment with version 8, but now it doesn't work again. Hoping that it gets updated and fixed, but I'm not optimistic after this long.

I've owned and used for many years, usually with the companion app. Basically stopped working with YouTube over a year ago, but continued to work on a few other sites. Now as of Aug 2023, it gets nothing at all. I get messages about not being able to aggregate streams, regardless of video type or size I try to download. Definitely don't pay for this
