Newsroom Digest turns your new tab into the day's news, ordered by how many outlets are covering each story — a rough measure of what the press as a whole is treating as important, rather than what one editor picked.

This is a companion app. It reads from a Newsroom server that you run yourself. It is not a hosted service and ships with no content of its own.

What the server does

Headlines are pulled from the RSS feeds of whatever outlets you configure, then passed through five stages: deciding which headlines describe the same story, folding duplicates together, checking each summary is supported by its sources, writing the summary, and a final pass over the assembled digest.

Each stage can be routed independently to a local GPU or to the Claude API, so you choose the balance of cost, speed, and quality. Routed fully local, a run costs nothing.

In the browser

• New tab page and toolbar popup, both showing the ranked digest
• Source panel and outbound links to the original articles
• Configurable story counts for each surface
• Trigger a fresh pipeline run from the extension

The extension reads from http://127.0.0.1:8767 by default, which works out of the box against a server on the same machine.
