Take notes on YouTube videos at the exact second they matter — and keep them on YOUR computer, forever.
Keepr Notes adds a small button to the YouTube player (or press Alt+N). One click captures the current timestamp and opens a note. Later, click any note and the video jumps straight
back to that moment. No more scrubbing the timeline trying to find "that one part."
WHY KEEPR IS DIFFERENT
Most note-taking extensions for YouTube store your notes on a company's cloud. That sounds convenient until the company shuts down, the login server breaks, or the free tier disappears
— and your notes go with it. It keeps happening. We built Keepr because we got tired of watching it happen.
Keepr is local-first by design. Your notes live in your browser's local storage on your own disk. There is no account to create, no server to depend on, and nothing that can "die
tomorrow" and take your work with it.
★ 100% LOCAL — Notes are saved with Firefox's local storage. They never leave your machine.
★ NO ACCOUNT — No sign-up, no email, no login wall. Install and start writing.
★ NO TELEMETRY — Zero tracking, zero analytics, zero phone-home requests. We don't know what you watch, and we never will.
★ OPEN SOURCE — The full source code is public at https://github.com/JIZR-DEV/keepr-notes, so anyone can verify exactly what it does.
★ MINIMAL PERMISSIONS — Keepr asks only for what it needs to run on YouTube. Nothing more.
WHAT YOU CAN DO
• Capture the exact second with one click or Alt+N
• Click a note to seek the video to that timestamp instantly
• Edit, search, and delete notes in a clean side panel
• Browse a library of every video you've annotated
• Export your notes to Markdown with clickable timestamp links
• Back up everything to a JSON file, and restore it on any device — you own your data and can move it freely
• Keeps working through YouTube redesigns thanks to resilient selectors and single-page navigation handling
GREAT FOR
• Students turning lectures and tutorials into study notes
• Researchers and journalists logging quotes with exact timecodes
• Developers following coding walkthroughs
• Anyone building a personal, searchable knowledge base from video
YOUR DATA, YOUR RULES
Because Keepr is local-first, you decide where your notes go. Export to Markdown to drop them into Obsidian, Notion, or any editor. Keep JSON backups wherever you like. There is no
vendor lock-in and no subscription holding your notes hostage.
PRICING
Keepr is free — every feature, no paywall, no subscription. If it helps you, an optional tip on Ko-fi or PayPal supports ongoing development. Donations are voluntary and never gate a
feature.
Note: Keepr does not download videos. It only stores the notes you write and the timestamps you capture.
Install Keepr Notes and start building a video knowledge base you actually own.
