Fixed: the "Check retraction" and "Check open access" buttons stayed greyed out for several identifier types the service already supports. Selecting a bare PubMed ID (e.g. 30049270), a bare arXiv ID (2301.07041), an arxiv.org or pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov URL, or a NASA ADS bibcode now enables both checks — matching the identifiers the right-click menu already accepted, and the ones listed on the store page.

No other behaviour changes. The extension still runs anonymously — no account, no API key, and nothing leaves your device except the identifier you select.

New: scholarly safety checks

Two new right-click context-menu items and matching popup buttons:

• Check retraction with Scholar Sidekick — checks the selected DOI / PMID / arXiv ID against Crossref and Retraction Watch.
• Check open access with Scholar Sidekick — checks Unpaywall and surfaces the best legal open-access copy when one exists.

New: bundled safety checks in the cite flow

A new "Include safety checks (retraction + open access)" toggle in the popup. When on, the standard Cite action returns the formatted citation alongside its retraction status and open-access status in one round trip — useful when you want to know about both before pasting a citation into a manuscript.

New: one-click handoff to the website citation verifier

A "Verify ↗" button in the popup opens the website's full citation verifier (/tools/citation-verifier) with your selection already parsed into the form — title, DOI, year, and first author pre-filled where the parser can pick them out. No more pasting the citation a second time.

Improved: clearer error messages

When an upstream resolver (arXiv, PubMed, …) times out or returns an error while looking up a non-DOI identifier, the popup now says "Upstream resolver timed out. Try again in a moment." instead of misleadingly reporting "No DOI resolved" for what was actually a transient network issue.

Permissions
