Privacy Policy — Custom Dashboard
Last updated: June 4, 2026
Custom Dashboard is a new tab page extension that runs mostly locally in your
browser. This policy describes what data it handles, for what purpose, and with
whom it is shared.
Summary
- We have no servers of our own. We do not collect, store, or sell your
personal data. - Most of your information (shortcuts, notes, settings, and the bookmarks and
history shown) stays on your device. - Data is only sent to third parties in the specific cases described below, and
only to make the corresponding feature work.
Data processed locally
Stored in the browser's local storage (storage.local) and never transmitted off
your device:
- Shortcuts (name and URL).
- Notes (title, text, color).
- Settings (preferred search engine, background tags).
- Your Unsplash and OpenWeatherMap API keys.
- Weather and background caches.
Your bookmarks and history are read through the browser APIs solely to display
them inside the dashboard. They are not copied, stored, or sent to any server.
Data transmitted to third parties
These transmissions happen only when you use the associated feature:
- Location -> OpenWeatherMap. If you configure an OpenWeatherMap key and accept
the location permission, your coordinates (latitude and longitude) are sent
to api.openweathermap.org to fetch your local weather. Coordinates are cached
locally for 30 minutes. They are not stored on any server of ours.
OpenWeather policy: https://openweather.co.uk/privacy-policy - Site icons -> DuckDuckGo. To show the favicon of your bookmarks, history, and
shortcuts, the extension requests the icon from icons.duckduckgo.com. That
request includes the site's domain (e.g. example.com), not the full address
or any personal data. DuckDuckGo policy: https://duckduckgo.com/privacy - Background images -> Unsplash. If you configure an Unsplash key, the extension
requests a random image from api.unsplash.com using your search tags.
Unsplash policy: https://unsplash.com/privacy
No analytics or tracking services are used. The typeface (Inter) is bundled with
the extension, so no requests are made to Google Fonts.
Your API keys
The keys you enter are stored locally and are only sent to the corresponding
service (Unsplash or OpenWeatherMap) as part of their requests. If you export a
backup of your configuration, the generated file includes those keys; keep it in
a safe place.
Data control and deletion
You can remove all data at any time by uninstalling the extension or deleting
items (notes, shortcuts, keys) from the interface itself. We keep no copy,
because your data never leaves your device except in the cases described above.
