I may be mistaken but the program seems to have become more cumbersom

Never been able to find a video converter that can handle as many web sites as this one.
True however that since the new versions (some 3 or 4 years ago) videos might be marked by a stamp in the top left corner when choosing a good quality (720p and above) video. Sad because sometimes it corrupts important details on the image.
However this is the best Vdnwloader I could find on a browser (no such thing under Brave or Opera for example).

pretty good to just download a video from a random website (particularly youtube) without much issue. BUT they want SO BAD for you to get the "companion app", and if you're going to do that, get youtube-dl.

I only have ONE complaint about this add-on. But I also leave it with a suggestion how to fix it.
The way I use this add-on is to to copy the link to the media I'd like to view. But when I TRY to do that, the add-on OFTEN make a "dual click" and also run the item in the menu right BELOW the arrow to show the list. That item is COPY & CONVERT the media which I DON'T want to do. After that I need to open it again and DELETE the download...
And when trying to do that, OFTEN the SAME thing happens again which leads into me making it over and over again..

My suggestion is that you SWITCH PLACES in the menu for those items. This means that i will only COPY the link = NO "harm" if it happens instead of starting an unwanted download which CAN be against the law depending on laws in the country of the users.

PLEASE take this into consideration..?

If it was working like I suggest, then I would have rated it with 5 stars instead of 4.

Generally works as expected. Firefox version works better than Chrome version.
