WayBackTube Date Range Search for Firefox does not collect analytics, create advertising profiles, sell user data, or transfer or use user data for advertising or analytics.
Data used by the extension
YouTube Data API key. The user enters this key in the extension popup. It is stored only in Firefox's local extension storage and is sent only to Google's official YouTube Data API when the user starts or refreshes a search.
YouTube search text and selected years. These values are read from the current YouTube search page and are sent only to Google's official YouTube Data API to retrieve the results the user requested.
Page token. When the user selects Load more, a page token returned by Google is sent back to Google to retrieve the next requested page.
Search-result cache and preferences. Reduced API results and settings are stored locally to make the extension work and reduce API usage.
Security design
The YouTube content script never reads, writes, or returns the API key. All key access and all Google API requests happen in the popup or Firefox background context.
The content script receives only the settings required to display the widget. It does not send YouTube cookies or a referrer to Google.
The extension contains no remote JavaScript, analytics, advertising SDK, or web-accessible extension page.
Firefox local extension storage is not an encryption vault. Do not share a Firefox profile or computer account with people you do not trust.
Data not collected
The extension does not collect account names, passwords, payment information, browsing history, analytics identifiers, or precise location. It does not scrape YouTube search-result HTML to build its own results.
Retention and deletion
Users can clear cached search results from the extension panel and delete their API key from the toolbar popup. Removing the extension removes its Firefox extension-local storage.
Third-party service
WayBackTube uses the YouTube Data API v3, operated by Google. Google's handling of requests is governed by Google's own policies.
The optional Support the project link opens the Boosty donation page only after the user clicks it. WayBackTube does not send the API key, search text, cache, or any other extension data to Boosty. Any information entered on Boosty is governed by Boosty's own policies.
