Blackbone Companion
Last updated: April 28, 2026
Blackbone Companion is a browser extension that helps you analyze your own
LinkedIn network and generate private insights about it. The extension
reads only your own connections list — the same data LinkedIn provides
to you via Settings → Data Privacy → Get a copy of your data → "Connections" —
and brings it into your Blackbone workspace, or downloads it as a CSV
locally.
This policy describes what data the extension accesses, how it is handled,
and your rights.
The extension reads data about your own LinkedIn connections,
specifically:
- Name — First and last name of each of your own connections
- Headline — Their professional headline (as already shown to you)
- Connection date — When you connected
- Profile URL and slug — LinkedIn profile link
- LinkedIn URN — LinkedIn's internal identifier
- Profile photo URL — LinkedIn CDN link to the photo
This is data already visible to you on your own connections page. The
extension does not access private messages, emails, passwords, search
results, or any third-party profile data you cannot see yourself.
- No personal data about you (the user) is collected, stored, or transmitted
- No analytics, telemetry, or usage data
- No cookies or browsing history are accessed (except the LinkedIn CSRF
token used implicitly by your browser to authenticate requests) - No third-party data from outside your own connections list
- No data is sold, shared with, or disclosed to advertisers
All connection data is stored locally in your browser using
chrome.storage.local. This data:
- Never leaves your device unless you explicitly export it (CSV
download) or send it to your authenticated Blackbone workspace - Is automatically cleared when you start a new analysis
- Can be cleared at any time by removing the extension
If you use the extension with Blackbone, your imported connections are
sent directly from your browser to your own authenticated Blackbone
workspace over HTTPS. The extension does not relay data through any
intermediary server. Once data reaches your Blackbone workspace, it is
governed by Blackbone's main privacy policy.
You can also use the extension purely locally — it can produce a CSV file
without any Blackbone involvement.
| Permission | Why It's Needed |
|---|---|
|
activeTab | Inject the analysis script into your active LinkedIn tab ||
scripting | Programmatically run the analysis script on LinkedIn ||
tabs | Detect whether LinkedIn is open and reuse the existing tab ||
storage | Save analysis results locally for export ||
debugger | Keep the LinkedIn tab from being throttled by Chrome while the analysis runs in the background. The extension does NOT inspect or modify network requests; it only signals that the tab is "active" ||
host_permissions: linkedin.com | Read your own LinkedIn connections page |- The extension runs entirely in your browser with no external servers of its own
- LinkedIn API requests use your existing authenticated session — no
credentials are stored or transmitted - The CSRF token is extracted at runtime from your session cookie and is
never persisted - Anti-detection measures (randomized delays, realistic headers) protect
your LinkedIn account during the analysis
This extension is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 13. We
do not knowingly collect data from children.
If this privacy policy changes, the updated version will be published
alongside the extension update. Continued use of the extension after
changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
