Would be cool if there could be a colour, or some kind of alert or badge on the actual dupliacte tab itself.
A one-click, auto-appearing 'close' button would be good too, instead of having to dive into the menu.
I find the 'close all' button and section a bit unclear - both the duplicate and the original tabs are listed, with a cross by each. Does the cross close the tab, or remove it from the menu? Does the 'close all' button close all the listed tabs, or just the duplicates? It's a bit nerve-wracking at first, but once you get used to how it works it's helpful in pruning down serious browsing sessions.Utvecklarens svar
postad för 2 dagar sedanThe strikethrough display you described is now available in v4.2.0: tabs that will be closed are shown with a strikethrough title, and the tab that will be kept is shown at full brightness. The "Close all" button has also been renamed to "Close duplicates" to make the intent clearer. The X next to each row closes that individual tab immediately. Hopefully that addresses the confusion.
For a badge or color on the browser tab itself: this is not possible with browser extension APIs. Extensions cannot style individual tabs in the tab bar. The extension icon badge already shows the duplicate count as a workaround.
For a quick close without opening the popup: you can assign a keyboard shortcut to "Close all duplicate tabs" in your browser's extension shortcut settings (chrome://extensions/shortcuts on Chrome, or about:addons on Firefox). - Betygsatt 4 av 5av GammaBubble, för 3 år sedanExcellent add on! Can we please get an option to exclude duplicates when a duplicate tab is manually opened?

- Betygsatt 4 av 5av Firefox-användare 17735753, för 3 år sedanI tried a duplicate tabs extension that was way simpler than this that I liked at first. It could close duplicate tabs automatically in the background without interruptions, but it stopped working at some point. I tried this one next and it seems to be very robust. I wasn't sure that I needed all the bells and whistles at first but they have turned out to be quite useful after all, such as the URL format filters and the whitelist.
If I could add a suggestion, it would be super helpful to be able to whitelist a new tab. Not sure if this is possible. I tried entering a pair of empty double quotes into the whitelist field "" to see if that would work since I noticed that wildcards are also supported. Kind of a hackerly solution but I took a swing at it. Still closes them though. 😛Utvecklarens svar
postad för 2 dagar sedanNew Tab pages are already protected and cannot be auto-closed by the extension. Both about:newtab (Firefox) and chrome://newtab/ (Chrome) are excluded from duplicate detection before any comparison or whitelist logic runs. The "" entry would have no effect since the whitelist only applies to regular HTTP(S) URLs.
If you are seeing new tabs being closed, it is possible you have a custom new tab extension that replaces the default page with a regular URL. In that case, adding that URL to the whitelist would work. If this is still happening with the current version of the extension, please open an issue at https://github.com/Peuj/duplicate-tabs-closer/issues with more details. - Betygsatt 4 av 5av Firefox-användare 17412706, för 3 år sedanRecently the about:blank whitelist fails.

- Betygsatt 2 av 5av VS, för 4 år sedanSo, this appears to promise automatic and manual resolution - perfect! Reality? You have to fight against this as soon as you don't do what it wants.
The most hilarious part is the manual deduplication. As the other person below notes, the "close all" button really closes all - it does NOT deduplicate your open tabs. That is to say, for 4 duplicated tabs, you get 0, not 1. So, not deduplication. It really is "close all", not "resolve all". In most cases you don't want to press it, ever.
If you want to resolve manually... Well, you get only a tiny bit of space for the list of all duplicates. You have to unpin the settings and collapse, exactly what you thought. Oh, did you think opening the settings in a tab will help, because it will scroll unlike the tiny popup, so you'd get a long list? Nope! Well, then, you finally collapse the settings, clicking left and right. And finally you can see it well - a list of tab names with [x], you click the [x], and... nothing happens! That's right, you have to refresh the whole settings tab to see the list updated. And did you think the list will be the same? Nooo, it is sorted, so as soon as you close one dupe and refresh, the list is in completely different order.
So, what did I expect? Lots more space for the duplicate list. Also, updating it in real time as you close the tabs, so I could just click over on the first item and as it closes, more shuffle back into the position, and of course when the last one remains, it is not a dupe anymore so it goes off the list. I also expected the close all button to do that dance for me.
As to the automatic resolution, that is also a bit weird. When you open all links in new tabs, then it probably works. But if you click a link to open in the current tab and it suddenly disappears, that's not exactly what I expected.
I'm really disappointed. But it does not even look like there are other addons that could do the job instead.Utvecklarens svar
postad för 2 dagar sedanIf you are still using the extension, a few things to clarify, some of which are addressed in recent versions.
"Close duplicates" keeps one tab. For 4 identical tabs, it closes 3 and keeps 1. The button was renamed from "Close all" to "Close duplicates" in v4.2.0, and the list now shows which tabs will be closed (strikethrough) versus which will be kept (full brightness), so the outcome should be predictable before you click.
Real-time list updates should work in the current version. Closing a tab via the X button triggers an immediate background update, and the list in the popup and options page refreshes automatically without needing a manual reload. If you are still seeing stale state after updating, please report it at https://github.com/Peuj/duplicate-tabs-closer/issues.
The current tab disappearing when navigating is expected behavior in auto-close mode: if you navigate to a URL already open in another tab, your current tab is the duplicate and gets closed. Setting "On duplicate tab detected" to "Do nothing" switches to manual mode, where nothing is closed automatically.
Space for the list: v4.2.0 adds a two-column popup layout with options and the duplicate list side by side, which gives more room to the list without needing to collapse settings manually. - Betygsatt 5 av 5av emvaized, för 4 år sedan

- Betygsatt 1 av 5av Firefox-användare 17422434, för 4 år sedanHours gone to waste because of this piece of crap. Instead of closing just duplicates, it closed all tabs that I had 2 or more of open. So for example, I had two copies of a tab. It closed them both. Ctrl-shift-T only goes back so far. I'm going to have to start all the way back at the beginning now. I can't even express my rage at this useless extension. I completely regret I ever got it.

postad för 2 dagar sedanIf you are still interested in the extension: the intended behavior of "Close duplicates" is to keep one tab per group and close the rest. For 2 copies of a tab, it should close 1 and keep 1. Closing all copies is not expected behavior.
It is possible this was a bug in the version you were using that has since been fixed, or that the kept tab ended up in a different window if "All windows" scope was active. Either way, losing tabs is a serious problem and the frustration is completely understandable.
If you are willing to try again with the current version and it happens again, please report it at https://github.com/Peuj/duplicate-tabs-closer/issues with details on what you did and which version you were using. That would help track down whether this is still reproducible. - Betygsatt 3 av 5av jesus2099, för 4 år sedanIt's super great but I have an issue now on Linux Firefox 91. Duplicate Tabs requires Containers, that I deactivate. Containers, when activated for Duplicate Tabs, hinder my right-click, C keyboard shortcut to quickly copy URL of a link, which I need every 5 minutes. I had to deactivate this extension, sadly...
Utvecklarens svar
postad för 2 dagar sedanThe extension does not require containers. The container-related scope options ("Container in active window", "Container in all windows") are optional and only relevant if you already use Firefox Multi-Account Containers. The default scope ("Active window") works without any container setup.
The keyboard shortcut conflict you describe is caused by the Multi-Account Containers extension itself, not by Duplicate Tabs Closer. If you deactivate the Multi-Account Containers extension (or simply leave the scope set to a non-container option in DTC), there should be no conflict.
If you are still on this version and the issue persists, feel free to open a report at https://github.com/Peuj/duplicate-tabs-closer/issues with more details. - Betygsatt 5 av 5av gene_wood, för 4 år sedan
