Unfortunately it doesn't play sound if media.autoplay.enabled = false, which makes it unusable for me as this is my default. Otherwise it would be great and 5 stars.

I actually like this add on, but it just updated, and now the download sound does not work. the speech and notification work, but the sound is gone, despite an uninstall and reinstall of it, and a computer reboot. it
was working before Today's update ! Options page did not help either.

And as usual, with anything Firefox, i can't seem to find an appropriate link to report it w/o having to go thru some oddball sign up. So, here we are !

I great extension to have if you download files using a slower internet connection. I prefer to download files one at a time because of the slow connection, so the alert is nice to have some I can download the next ASAP.

v1.2 worked fine for me, but since upgrading to v1.4 (skipped v1.3), I can't choose the voice I want. It uses the same voice, regardless of what I have selected in the dropdown menu. Selecting the completion tone works as expected. Using FF62dev + OSX 10.10.5.

Update 1: I discovered that this is a problem only with the "en-US" voices... all en-US voicee use the default male voice (Alex), but when I choose another nationality, like Tessa (en-ZA), it does change the voice.

Update 2: Both the github and download sound addon have 64 voices on the drop down menu.

It's simple and it works. I'd give it a 5th star if it let you choose your own sound... It doesn't seem like that would be to difficult to add. ;?)

My previous review (for version 1.2): Does what it says, but would be nice to use my own sound - not a fan of the one included. Five stars for custom sound files. :)

Developer responds that Extensions cannot access local files.

I used to use Download Status Bar, which allowed use of custom sound files. But that's not an Extension and won't work in newer Firefox. So maybe not allowing access to local files is new in Extensions. If so, that sucks. If not, please keep trying! :)

I appreciate the new volume adjustment and other notification options.

Rarely, for reasons unknown, it will turn itself off. Simple and quick fix of Disable then Enable (no need to restart Firefox), so only a minor annoyance. Doesn't happen often though.

Awesome plugin. For anyone else using Firefox Quantum v60.0.1 under Linux, the "Save / Play Sound" button doesn't work for preview, but when you're download completes the sound does actually play just fine. That was a bit confusing for me. Some minor errors:
* The Sound "Save / Play Sound" button does not respond under Firefox Quantum v60.0.1 under Linux (Arch)
* Allow custom notification sound
* The Speech "Voice" dropdown is empty... not sure which TTS library is used, but would be good to make it work
* Make the icon link to the downloads page, right click the icon for properties...
* Special sound for failed download

using firefox v58 i get no sound when using sound option but speech works. i just want a lil dink sound.
edit: the closest i get to a custom sound is; chose sound, speech output just the letter D, and voice hazel.

It does the job but I would suggest to use the extension "Navigational Sounds" which also comes with a sound for complete downloads and it's nicer than this extension.

We can change the text message, but I suggest that we could also change the sound, and make the voice less robotics.

I am having to revert back to the older version. Each time I update to the new version, it works once. And, then never works again. This only began with the latest release. Never had an issue before.
