My only complaint would be it spawns a floating window you need to figure out how to close on a tiling wm.

The floating window was a compromise between not disrupting user workflow by opening a tab but still allowing the feed detection to be more persistent than a popup.
But i do get your issue with tiling WMs so just between us, try clicking on the toolbar button with your middle mouse button.
