Maria Stuarda by Donizetti
The 1975 studio recording of the opera Maria Stuarda composed by Gaetano Donizetti. Richard Bonynge conducts the Orchestra e Coro del Teatro Comunale di Bologna and leading singers Joan Sutherland (Maria), Huguette Tourangeau (Elisabetta) and Luciano Pavarotti (Roberto, Earl of Leicester). The libretto was based on a fictional confrontation in a Schiller play between Elizabeth I of England and Mary, Queen of Scots, but in truth the two never met.
