I had the same issue as others. Spinning circle after install. However, once I removed it and installed it again, what I was missing was the confirmation button at the bottom of the first page that opens up, then on the next page it asks you to log in. Once logged in, THEN the extension icon worked correctly.

At least for a paid person. Not sure how that's supposed to work with the free version.

I have been using it for years but this week it doesn't work. The extension keeps loading loading and loading. I tried to uninstall and reinstall it but it didn't work.

The Proton VPN in my MacOS works completely fine but I don't want to use that.

ProtonVPN by itself is not bad, in fact it is by far the best VPN service I have used till date. But this extension? It is more worthless than a boat on land.

The problem is that it never loads anything and just displays a window with a spinning circle on it, and the circle keeps spinning till I crash out and delete the extension.

Here's the process:
1. I pin this extension and then click on its icon
2. A small window appears and its loads... something.
3. It keeps loading.
4. It keeps loading.
Forever.

Yes, I reinstalled it multiple times.
Yes, I updated firefox.

I even rebooted once. Did not work at all. The ProtonVPN Linux CLI did though so its definitely not a network issue on my side.

It was easy to use, & free. I liked that it automatically connected.

As of now (26.07.17) the Proton VPN extension is unusable and a compromised service. Switching back to PIA for VPN

Recently the Firefox extension has become unstable, often reporting 'invalid refresh token' at startup. Sometime during this issue they have also taken it upon themselves to link the VPN extension info to their webmail service, which is an exceptionally fubar breach of privacy and security as it uses that info to authenticate itself, granting anyone with access to the broswer instant access to email, account information, and account settings - COMPROMISED.

The free version keeps disconnecting after some time. I have to manually disable and re-enable the extension for it to work again.

Firefox 152.0.6 (aarch64)

Auto-connect doesn't really work after a cold boot or sleep. I'll get the notification that it connected, but the icon will appear as if there is no connection, and internet access is completely blocked. A few times of turning it off and on, closing and reopening Firefox, it will start to work again. I think it's related to auto-connect, maybe there needs to be a delay, but I don't really feel like troubleshooting. I really wanted to like it but the desktop app is just more reliable.

Very good VPN, automatically connects you to fastest server and it's free. For daily use, this is good.

Great plug-in, excellent service. I use Proton VPN all the time in different browsers on different computers. Helps clean up some of the ads too.

Will not work in Firefox 115
After the worst nightmare of Proton VPN disabling their desktop app for Windows 7 (that is precisely what needs it the most) I have attempted the work around of installing the addon to Firefox 115 and Eclipse r3dfox 151. I have pinned the addon icon to the toolbar but when I click on it I only get this swirling. Please advise or fix.
edit: So it now works on Chrome but not on Firefox 115ESR nor r3dfox 151 which should be the same as Firefox 151. Re-enable the desktop app for 7 users and adhere to your mission statement!! App logs in now but refuses to assign an IP.
