by Firefox user 16003644, 6 years agoI really like the add-on, it does exactly what it says it does, and does it very well. It gives sufficient controls to configure, and selectively customise or disable the add-on on specific websites.
That said, I disabled it today after trying it for almost 4 months. Sometimes it slows down webpages too much, specially long pages (e.g. Github's webhook payload docs page), pages with visualisations (plots and figures, e.g. the coronavirus monitoring page by worldometers), and sometimes login pages.
I also have a hunch it's causing the memory footprint of my FF instance to bloat. I have a really beefy laptop (>13 gigs of RAM available), and it still starts paging after half a day. I do have a lot of tabs open, but I didn't have this issue before. If I continue to have my RAM issues after disabling the add-on, I'll come back and remove this paragraph.
Edit: now I have been running with the add-on disabled for half a day, with the same set of tabs, and my memory footprint is about 1/3-1/4 as before. Really sad that I can't use this add-on, back to being blinded on the Interwebs :(

- Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 20043519, 9 days agoIt pains me to rate it this low as I do love it, but with the last update it's now slowing down google docs to an almost unusable state. A shame, since it's the only reason I have this addon and until now it was seamlessly functional. Messed with settings but the only thing that fixes it is turning it off entirely. Using a mac.
- Rated 4 out of 5by Firefox user 20042870, 10 days agoAlmost perfect. Occasionally, for unknown reasons, it gets turned off on some websites. Working through temporary blindness, I'll have to disable, then re-enable it for those sites.

- Rated 3 out of 5by boopysnoopy, 13 days agoFor whatever reason- despite having it configured to be "On", I've had to manually turn it on, aka go into the UI and click on the domain name to check it, for it to work.
Sounds like a minor issue. But I'll often not realize that I'm in light mode on a site especially when I'm getting tired. I wont realize that my eyes are straining, and when I do, I think: Monitor brightness is low, so what could it be?
...Ohhh, right. Dark Reader isn't doing anything again. Sigh
Anyways, is it really true that this addon is responsible for memory leaks? extensions are sometimes hounded by baseless accusations of malware and stuff, but its happening more and more often that extensions actually are the culprit behind browser performance issues - Rated 4 out of 5by hoangkamam, 14 days agosome sites with cloudflare protection can't verify human when Dark reader is on.
quick work around is temporary turn off and turn it back on after cloudflare verified. - Rated 5 out of 5by Blood-Art, 15 days ago
