by jep, 6 years ago"Simple Tab Groups" has been an absolute game changer for my workflow. It is a very well thought-out extension that has allowed me to compartmentalize my work activities greatly. I normally have multiple windows open, separated by activity. In fact, I usually have upwards of 6 windows, with each averaging upwards of 20 tabs, for everything from different Jupyter Python projects to researching different topics to general web browsing. It was a nightmare keeping track of which was which, I lived in constant fear of losing papers or web resources I had found or of simply losing the structure I had in those windows, and the associated RAM usage would periodically slow my machines to a crawl. "Simple Tab Groups" has completely solved these issues.
ORGANIZATION: Simple Tab Groups allows you to name groups and, with the setting enabled, display their names in the window title. I can much more easily manage multiple windows by using these two features.
HISTORIES / ORGANIZATION: Tab groups are stored, with customizable backups created daily by default, so that I can quit Firefox or restart my machine and simply reopen the tab group with the tab structure I'd previously tailored. .
MEMORY: When RAM usage becomes an issue, I can simply close groups with the secure knowledge that I can easily reopen those groups when I need them again. There is also a specific option to save RAM when tabs are hidden, but I haven't found it necessary to use this option. Many of the groups I create are only needed once a week or less. I can now simply keep those windows closed until I come back around to that project, so that my RAM usage now generally stays low.
Finally, this extension also works well with Firefox's "Multi-Account Containers" extension. I have used both together for weeks with zero conflicts on either a Mac or Ubuntu 18. My only concern with this extension is that I am becoming highly reliant on it, and if Drive4ik ceases developing and supporting it, I would be hard-pressed to find a combination of trustworthy (i.e., Mozilla-recommended) tools that work as well as this one extension does. Thank you for your excellent work, Drive4ik! Would love to support you monetarily as well.

Works perfectly!!!! - Rated 4 out of 5by Juno, 16 days ago
- Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 19937432, 22 days agoWorked well until recently. Now every time you open FF after closing it, some of the tab groups are in different windows, some might be empty, and the backups just aren't there. This extension has totally lost its purpose as being able to save what you're doing through restarts.
- Rated 4 out of 5by EnergyMover, a month agoRestore backup no longer works with firefox May 13 2026 update! Looks like an abandoned extension. Been over a year since last updated. What a shame. It was the best of its kind!

- Rated 4 out of 5by antonavy, 2 months agoIt's really a good option for the lack of a better one... It gets the job done by hiding tabs from other "workspaces" into the hidden tabs list. Didn't notice a lot of bugs.
But a few things that really push me to use other browsers: it's not as elegant, very simple design, doesn't feel native and natural (compared to vivaldi, arc, zen, opera, etc); and two very annoying things: tab groups don't hidden, but are kinda empty, but still show previews, which brakes immersion and the fact that it spawns a directory every single day in your home folder ("STG-..."), and never cleans it up. - Rated 5 out of 5by Ron Elicit, 2 months agoMy favorite browser extension, hands down. Yes, the last Firefox update broke it. Need your tabs back? Settings > Backup Your Simple Tab Groups > Enable Auto-backup (you should be doing this anyway). Then Restore Backup every time you relaunch Firefox. (I delete existing data and revert to my last save.)
That's how I'm managing until the maintainer updates this extension. (Based on their location in Ukraine, I'm willing to give them some slack.) - Rated 4 out of 5by CarlosTorch, 2 months ago

- Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 14179354, 2 months agokeeps crashing when trying to restore backup. tab groups load but not the pages in them.
- Rated 3 out of 5by Firefox user 16987590, 3 months agoIt's okay. But your max is going to be 4 groups before tabs/browser starts to feel laggy on MacOS.

- Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 14589876, 3 months agoК сожалению, дополнение неисправно. При попытке восстановить группы из резервной копии, браузер просто падает и восстанавливаются пустые группы.

- Rated 1 out of 5by Ubirajara1000, 4 months agoSimplesmente NÃO funciona. Gastei mais de 3h criando grupos, mas a extensão SINGLE TAB GROUPS simplesmente não grava os grupos que criei e os apaga sempre.
- Rated 1 out of 5by FireFox-User-1, 4 months agoNope, great Idea but every some updates it kills everything and is not relaible. Now lost 200 tabs ....

- Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 14520466, 4 months agoAll open tabs that were not in a group suddenly disappeared, as I was managing groups. They only reappeared again when the extension was uninstalled. That's a terrible user experience. Avoid.
