Simple Tab Groups by Drive4ik

by André luiz, 2 years agoMostly, it's kinda hard to manage a huge amount of groups and tabs, as you can't multi-select groups and tabs. It's really hard to move tabs around groups, organize the order of groups, delete multiple groups at once, etc. It's not as practical as it should be. And I think the UI is kinda outdated, though that's just aesthetics. But also, it is the only tab group extension I've seen that saves this much memory. You open a group and it doesn't load 60 tabs unless you specifically tell it to. For that alone, I don't switch from Firefox to Chrome (because Firefox mobile fucking sucks, at least on MIUI). I also like the praticality of deleting tabs from a group. You open the group and close the tab normally, it counts. For some reason other extensions are more convoluted than that, which is fucking nuts. And lastly, the backups are hit or miss. The automatic and manual local backups are great, but the bookmarks are really weird to me. Like, why doesn't it synchronize with current tabs (or at least have an option for that)? Instead, it adds the initial tabs and then keeps adding new ones infinitely. It's looks like a mess and I see no point in it. For me to get all my groups, as they currently are, as bookmarks, I have to delete the STG folder and wait for it to save again. That or I'd have to add every single one manually, but that's not viable.
I'd give it a 3 for lack of practicality when organizing shit, but it keeping me stuck on Firefox because of how useful it is makes it a 4.

- Rated 3 out of 5by leetNigthshade, a month agoUsed to work flawlessly, but more recently I've been running into issues (at least on Linux) where the plugin is stuck with a loading indicator and I can't access any of my tab groups.
ALSO, it randomly loses tabs in my active tab group on [re]load or something; I end up having to restore from backups. - Rated 5 out of 5by godjjjita, a month agoSo far my experience with simple tab groups is excellent, it does what it promises and doe it well.
If I may suggest, could you add a shuffle tabs option? it would be useful to those of us that hoard tabs like a dragon but forget about them. - Rated 5 out of 5by jeeyu, 2 months ago

This most likely because he is being affected by the WAR in Ukraine, where he lives. Hoping for his safe return to programming tools like this.
FYI, There is newer code on Git that was submitted just over a month ago. I'm trying to figiure out how to install that and test it. - Rated 1 out of 5by nucky, 2 months agoUsing this for years, have to stop now and find an alternative. Do not recommend at all
Keeps hiding random tabs from random groups every day. Then you have to manually find the hidden tabs in the firefox hidden tabs menu and reopen them only for it to randomly close a bunch again - Rated 4 out of 5by TT, 3 months agoaddon "Hide Tabs" may help you unhide all tabs after firefox update problem

Works perfectly!!!! - Rated 4 out of 5by Juno, 4 months ago
- Rated 3 out of 5by Firefox user 19937432, 4 months agoWorked well until recently. Now every time you open FF after closing it, some of the tab groups are in different windows, some might be empty, and the backups just aren't there. This extension has totally lost its purpose as being able to save what you're doing through restarts.
- Rated 4 out of 5by EnergyMover, 4 months agoRestore backup no longer works with firefox May 13 2026 update! Looks like an abandoned extension. Been over a year since last updated. What a shame. It was the best of its kind!

- Rated 4 out of 5by antonavy, 5 months agoIt's really a good option for the lack of a better one... It gets the job done by hiding tabs from other "workspaces" into the hidden tabs list. Didn't notice a lot of bugs.
But a few things that really push me to use other browsers: it's not as elegant, very simple design, doesn't feel native and natural (compared to vivaldi, arc, zen, opera, etc); and two very annoying things: tab groups don't hidden, but are kinda empty, but still show previews, which brakes immersion and the fact that it spawns a directory every single day in your home folder ("STG-..."), and never cleans it up. - Rated 5 out of 5by Ron Elicit, 5 months agoMy favorite browser extension, hands down. Yes, the last Firefox update broke it. Need your tabs back? Settings > Backup Your Simple Tab Groups > Enable Auto-backup (you should be doing this anyway). Then Restore Backup every time you relaunch Firefox. (I delete existing data and revert to my last save.)
That's how I'm managing until the maintainer updates this extension. (Based on their location in Ukraine, I'm willing to give them some slack.) - Rated 4 out of 5by CarlosTorch, 5 months ago
- Rated 1 out of 5by rbx4, 5 months agoI don't know why anyone would use this. Does not reliably save tab groups.
- Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 14179354, 6 months agokeeps crashing when trying to restore backup. tab groups load but not the pages in them.
- Rated 3 out of 5by Firefox user 16987590, 6 months agoIt's okay. But your max is going to be 4 groups before tabs/browser starts to feel laggy on MacOS.
