Adblock for Youtube + Remove Shorts - GoodTube by GoodTube

by Shade, 17 days agoI started using GoodTube not too long ago after all other adblockers started failing. I've tried pretty much everything out there (ublock, adguard, adblock, adblockpro etc...) until stumbling on GoodTube, at first it seemed too good to be true... An Adblocker that simply works as the "about" shows, yea right-.. No actually... Its amazing, its fast (faster then usual adblockers), its reliable, and in my testing period I have had 0 issues. During my trial period, the video player was a little bit different then I was used to, but after reaching out to the developer by email they instantly worked on a solution... And they delivered! The old player is back again, I couldn't be more happy! Do not miss out on this addon, if you are, you don't know what you're missing. 5/5 stars, well deserved. Love to our Aussie developer <3

- Rated 1 out of 5by Styphoryte, 3 days agoThis developer was known in the past to collect hardware "debug" data openly on his github but yet I look now and the github is completely disappeared! That leaves little to no trust left now, especially after installing and seeing it's 2 bucks whenever I can easily use AdNaseum or Ublock instead and I've had no issues for months now as long as I keep my filters up to date sure there's a rare issue here and there like any extension. But I highly doubt this is worth 2 dollhairs, but hey if you're really in dire need of adblocking and ublock isn't working for some weird reason and you don't wanna pay for premium cuz you're cheap and don't know how to use Google Rewards in order to pay for premium for a few months to bypass any kind of Google youtube account temp ban from adblocking detection, then my good sir you ahven't been in the game long enough imo. No extension is worth this money because there's no guarantee, it will constantly be a battle between Youtube and adblockers now unfortunately. I do miss the good ol' days, but what can you do..... No hate at all just a fair warning for everyone, I highly doubt this person is doing anything that nefarious or it wouldn't be on here no accusations obviously I just think the idea of removing the github and then tryna charge money for this bs whenever there's plenty of other free ones mostly all free actually then what's even the point?? Sure I get it ppl need to make money but idk, I think my gripe would not be much at all if the github or codeberg was still around. If it is I will edit and adjust my review accordingly but until then I don't think this is a great extension. Really if you proved you aren't sharing or collecting data that's that intrusive and had a github page about it then I will update my review. Until then I'm just not sure about this extension at all. Also to restore the Old Youtube UI from 2023-2024ish just grab Control Panel for YouTube that's a great alternative... I hope you can understand and like I said no personal vendetta or anything like that or any disrespect I just have trouble trusting anyone these days. Anyways thanks for your work either way in fighting youtube LMAO Either way that is a W in my book. 😎 Just wish there was a github, etc we can all view. And maybe there is and im just being stupid right now and if so apologies!!!! Anyone reading this I wouldn't be that concerned well maybe Idk don't trust every extension you find on here, if you feel safe with it and don't have much to worry about then install any extension you'd like but for now this one is off the table for me. I used to like it whenever it was a tampermonkey script though, until i read about the data collection on Reddit. Idk I just think addressing this would help in general. Thanks for understanding. Like I said maybe im wrong and you have already addressed this, but I haven't seen anything new about it yet.

posted 3 days agoAh, let me address some of your concerns.
1. The old userscript version contained a simple counter, where I could see how many unique users there were and how many videos were watched - but no personal information was collected. This current version / extension contains no tracking at all however. Nothing is collected. I take your privacy and security quite seriously.
2. The Github was actually suspended, it's not something I deleted or anything like that. Honestly I'm not too sure why, when I released the update announcing that the old UI was now fixed - they deleted it automatically. I think I said some stuff about living free that was too spicy haha.
Something like "I've been having a really oppressive time in Australia lately, managed to make this update last thing before moving overseas with my partner and I'm travelling one way to Germany. Down with the systems that control us, life free be free!"
To be real with you - I'm actually sending this message from a hostel in Tokyo and about to go to a rave. Making some pasta first with my gf haha. I'm a real person, this is not a large commercial product. I have zero interest in tracking you whatsoever. This is essentially a battle against large scale capitalism. Somehow this sort of honesty is really, really controlled lately. In fact it will get your Github deleted...
Anyway, I appealed to have the suspension lifted but they did not reply. I'd actually love to have the Github back online.
In terms of guarantees, I suppose ultimately there are none. However GoodTube has been working 100% of the time for almost 2 years now. That's a pretty good track record I feel. It's a complicated system I'm using but basically this uses Youtube's own terms of service against them and this extension will be very hard for them to stop.
So take it or leave it I guess. It is what it is. If you like it, by all means use it. If you don't that's fine too. But this negative review is kind of unfair and pointless I feel. - Rated 5 out of 5by Romy, 16 days agoIt works very well, but for the past few days I've been getting a pop-up that says "Experiencing Interruptions?" Ads continue to be successfully blocked.
I haven't installed anything other than GoodTube, and I'm a paying customer.
- Hide "Who's listening in 20xx?" don't work for me.
- Hide "Members only"-Videos don't work for me.
- Videos restarting on their own when I click on the tab, while a video is playing in the background. - Rated 5 out of 5by Simmie_Windsor, a month ago
- Rated 4 out of 5by Nathr, a month agoEdited review : The below seemingly happens due to a change the YT made and the dev sent out an email that he is working on it, but nonetheless, I should be able to choose whether to not use the extension's player or the regular player. Some points remain for now but we shall see after the fix is applied. Updated my stars to 4 for now. Thanks for the proactivity!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
The premise is good, but there are extreme issues with using this extension.
- It often plays the videos twice simultaneously (reg. player and this ext.'s player) so double audio and processing
- It often hides the "this tab is playing audio" speaker icon in the tab
- The "restores old video player" feature does not work. It does change the video player but to something completely different that lacks many functionalities of the regular player and overall looks much much worse, not just subjectively, but by objective measures as well.
- The "report a bug" feature does not work, tried submitting bugs twice, but both times it failed on the extension's end.
- The extension is 100% paid, which is not really clear when installing the extension. The "free" part is a 7day free trial
- The free trial version does not function the same as the paid version - After paying, it started behaving differently.
I am giving it 2 stars because it does block the ads, but so do others and this one has a plethora of issues that ultimately made me spend the time to write this review.
I don't wish to sabotage the work of the developer, it just truly was a bad experience. I am open to modifying it of course, but to do that, I'd need to come back to it in the future and "test" it... I think it is definitely okay to make the extension paid, but not when it has not been properly tested. Perhaps YouTube is to blame here and is messing with the extension, but still. Make a toggle to enable/disable all individual features of the extension so that if YT breaks the "player" part of the extension, I can just toggle it off so that I can return to the regular yt player and still use the extension. - Rated 5 out of 5by Kuro, a month agoI normally don't bother reviewing extension with text to be honest, but this is by a whole fucking mile the best 2$ I've spent in years, you made an amazing work and you deserve all the best! Thank you again for your service.

Developer response
posted 2 months agoHey, this issue is not being caused by GoodTube. It's something that Youtube have been doing recently to users when they detect they're using an adblocker.
So far GoodTube is undetectable, so most likely you've got something else enabled which is causing this (such as uBlock Origin). Or had it enabled previously and it's left traces behind in your cookies and cache (in which cause it will trigger detection even when it's been disabled).
Please note that setting the slider on uBlock Origin to the lowest setting won't work, you've got to fully disable it.
Can you try fully disbling all other extensions, clear your cookies and cache, and then test with only GoodTube enabled? I think that will resolve your issue.
From there you can then turn your other extensions back on one at a time until you find the cause of the problem.
Hope that helps! - Rated 5 out of 5by Felipe, 2 months agoUsing GoodTube has been incredible!
You can customize it to your liking, completely remove YouTube Shorts if you want to. It removes those bothersome ads.
And the developer is very kind and understanding. Currently, I'm in a tough spot financially, and the developer was kind enough to sent me a key.
GoodTube has been very helpful to my everyday needs when it comes to watching content, give it a try if you can. - Rated 5 out of 5by River, 2 months agogets rid of the buffering <3 but it doesnt play nice with enhancer for youtube

- Rated 5 out of 5by Brouhahaha, 2 months agoWorks perfectly. Best of all creator was kind enough to waive the minor lifetime. I plan to bung him/her a coffee... Thank you, makes viewing YouTube seamless again, also has some added benefits like the old YT player.

- Rated 5 out of 5by Slap-Nutz, 4 months agoDoes what it says...Was getting the pop-up, warning youtube violation of blah, blah, blah...Not anymore. Very cool, to find an extension, app, anything, really, nowadays, that just works....and, this does.
- Rated 5 out of 5by Wm, 4 months agoGreat add-on. Great UI and ease of use. Only little problem I have is that it doesn't have a default 1440p setting for videos on youtube. Setting it to 4K is too laggy and I have a 2k monitor so don't want to just default it to 1080p.
Edit: Thanks for responding and that you're including the 2k setting soon. Outstanding.Developer response
posted 4 months agoHey, the 1440p setting should be included soon. The code is ready, I'm just waiting on Firefox to approve / publish the pending update. - Rated 5 out of 5by Glitched_Reality, 4 months agoA lot of Extensions don't really work but this one absolutely does. If I could give it more stars I would!
Because there's a bunch of bots rating things nowadays here's some random words from a great movie to prove it's real. Madula Amblagada. Tooth Brush. High Quality H20. - Rated 5 out of 5by Muath, 4 months agoAbsolutely phenomenal. Finally a YouTube ad-blocker after all of this chaos! Thank you so much GoodTube team.
- Rated 5 out of 5by ophelia, 4 months agoworks perfectly & without any issues, very unintrusive and also very lightweight for how much it's doing. the one time $2 purchase is more than worth it. 10/10
- Rated 5 out of 5by Ari, 4 months agoGoodTube is a genuinely worthwhile add-on to have. It's quick and easy to manage, and it does a great job dealing with the mess that is YouTube's restless ad system. Also the price is also incredibly affordable and the dev is very understanding for those who can't pay. It's a good deal!
