by Firefox user 13543655, 8 years agoI am giving this 4 stars rather than 5 - for the following reasons, right now, it is the ONLY youtube downloader that will save in high resolutions, such as 1080p and even higher - and it does a good job, however, it loses a star for the following three reasons - 1. a successful high resolution download now requires an additional program (called a companion app) to be downloaded and installed for a conversion to be done, though this is likely not the fault of the developer, probably the only way around youtube's latest copy protection scheme, and this executable appears to be safe and is open source. 2. the conversion can take a while (as in an hour or more). 3. You end with a high resolution download, at the full quality of the original, but it has this stupid QR code watermark in the top left corner to kind of force you to contribute, in order to get rid of it. - The required contribution is US$28.50, but at least it is just a one time fee, and likely a good deal considering that this is the only game in town at present.

- Rated 1 out of 5by X5-176, 13 hours agoUPDATE: As of today 11-07-25, I just got an email from Mozilla saying they checked in and reviewed this extension and it DOES violate Mozilla's policies, and they are contacting the developer to make changes to the extension and if he doesn't they WILL remove it.
1 Star rating he's now putting a qr code on our videos being downloaded to force us to buy, already bad enough he wanted us to download a 3rd party companion app to make the extension work properly.
This was a bait and switch on his part, he wanted as many people as possible to download and use the extension and now he's trying to force us to buy it, pretty scummy imo.
Uninstalled and possibly never coming back to it, there's other alternatives this was just the easiest at the time.
Will keep come back now and then to make sure others know how bad and scummy this move was though. - Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 19564229, 13 hours agoone of most Fattest QR code known to man. i'll pass on this one champ.

- Rated 1 out of 5by ma-, 3 days agoWhy is Mozilla allowing this bait and switch application here? You install the extension and then after a few working downloads it starts trying to get my to install a binary on my machine.

- Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 18646623, 4 days agoI see complaints from reviewers about paying $30 for the full version to avoid the watermark on copied videos, but I've been using the paid version of Videodownloadhelper for over two years and have downloaded hundreds of videos very easily. Yes, when there are updates it has taken me a minute to find where to add the lifetime key (could be more intuitive, Paul!), but it's doable and $30 is a small price to pay for lifetime use! It works great - many thanks!!
